Glass back???

Recommended Posts

When I go shooting in damp conditions I like to lie on the ground to take my shots But without fail a couple of days later I end up with back spasms in my lumber and a really painful ache around the muscles in my lower back, the doctors call it non specific lower back pain in other words we are not quite sure what it is.

For the last 6 months everyday without fail I’ve been doing press ups I started on about 20 then worked up to 40 where I am now straight off no sets just 40 and also I’ve been using an Abs wheel for something so cheap and simple I can’t believe how much this combined with my press ups it has strengthened my back and core, I’m 56 and it’s the best I’ve felt in years get rid of the gut and strengthening your back and core seems the way ahead for me.

Proper stretching BEFORE exercise is the main prevention to injury .At work nobody does a warm up prior to lifting or digging but nowadays I tend to do a few stretches beforehand .My own back trouble has eased ,touch wood ,due to me taking it easier than I did 10 years ago .

We all tend to think we are invincible but I sympathise with you mate ,back pain is a game stopper for some

Always wary of masking pain with drugs as I’m aware the damage is still there and could get worse during the time any drugs are activated .Better to know about pain so things can be done in an orderly fashion to avoid more damage .

Sciatica is a b*****d in the groin and usually follows   back pain for me .Did mine bumping planks up into the eves  of a listed building to treat wood worm years ago .Lead on the floor for 4 hours after frightened to move .Lately I’ve been twanging muscles inside my chest which is pretty debilitating .

Need to lose weight for sure but wrestling with the steering wheel trying to pass a mc Donald’s has done my back on a few occasions so I usually let the truck win .

@foxdropper are you a p-way man on the railway, If you are second in line to the welders who are first in line for bad backs, I am ex pway and we used to move switches crossings 60 foot rails with sometimes just 5 men the amount of blokes I know on the railway with knackered backs is unreal,  I’ve seen all the bravado stuff look at me I’ve got a sleeper on each shoulder and i tell them knock it on the head you will suffer in the long run and when you’ve been on a long while you see the same blokes hobbling about years later.

Ive done various jobs on the railway and most were graft but the job I do know it’s what I know lol ?

I was on the p-way for 15 year and I did all that and more and never suffered from a bad back.

It's crazy that after all that by back went working in Aldi doing a job just to keep me ticking over before going back on the railway.

Been to see the physio this evening, he suspects I've got a bulging disc.

I've been told to do some stretches and movements to help out before he starts me on some proper core exercises.

I've now got to do the cat stretch, shoulder bridge, pushups with my legs and hips on the floor and slump + situp.

Let's see if all this actually helps.

You'd made yourself strong for the job that you'd been doing over the years - your body got used to lifting heavy loads in certain ways.

As daft as it may sound, you switched to a job with smaller loads but different movements  - 1 wrong twist or extension when you're taking things for granted is all it takes.

As you now know, backs are a f****r - now that it's gone wrong, you're going to get lots of conflicting opinions and diagnoses until (maybe) you find something that works for you.

........... you could be on a long journey  - that said, I hope you find something that works ?

I had a bulged disc at the start of the year. Went to the physio right away. Got pretty much same kinda stuff as you stretches, core exercises, few bits of advice about getting back into normal exercise routine and I'm absolutely fine now.

He did mention that the muscles around the injured area shut down after it goes pop and they can be nightmare to fire back up again.

He said to stick with the program and if nothing helps then maybe consider surgery.

Basically I hope it doesn't come to that cos rehab can be a nightmare and a lengthy process in itself.

Sometimes I think they make it up as they go along, like I said I've seen 3 different specialists and all 3 have given a different diagnosis.

I looked up my supposed condition on the Web and i shit you not on this medical site one of the preventions of a bulging disc relapse was a positive mental attitude, wtf is that all about like? If I think my back is in great condition it will be? I'll just wish it away then.????

When I done mine I was in discomfort 24/7 then followed what he told me and within a few month I felt totally normal. Hopefully it works for you and no surgery is required

How long did you have bother with it for?

I asked him about starting back at the gym and doing squats and deadlifts, he told me to lay off for a couple of week and take it from there.

You'll keep getting that - it's just best guess until someone gets it right, unless they give you a scan in one of those big machines.

Positive mental attitude ffs

......... you'd be better with a shamen, a chickens foot and a crows feather

Take it steady mate - the worse case scenario is shitting your pants and not getting it up ever again.

Keep the deep heat and pain killers handy - at least they'll keep you earning while it's being sorted.

If I ever fail to get it up then they can bury me there and then, I mean Ray is basically on par with Christopher Reeve and he's the top shagger on THL.....
