Are there certain trees the chicken favours and do they prefer a certain side of the tree as in n,s,e,w facing, was hoping to have been away on my boat by now and doing much more foraging but things have taken longer so might have a look for a bit of stuff now before I go, so at least I’ll no what I’m looking for next year ?

No likes left mate sorry. Blackberrys we picked a few today but most not ready till at least next week or the week after. Seen some down a lane about a month ago that were ready they seem all over the place. The Chicken of the Woods is okay to add to a stew that kinda thing but not the best. Hen of the wood though is one of my favourites. Ceps I can not believe it dropped right on them in a favourite spot under an Oak tree, 26 yesterday and 45 today. Will visit again tomorrow still more coming.

Cheers Arry

Starting early this year, must be all the rain.  I now think this is the Ruby Bolete and not the Red Cracking Bolete, not for eating. Cheers Arry

Just got back from the fishing comp and a bit knackered but I know there would be a bit of Fungi about after this drop of rain the last week. So went for a short mooch , good job would have missed the

I grew this reishi on wood chip from my hazel coppice

As said before cut the small Dryad Saddle. Beefsteak is another I don't bother with now, soak in milk for a while before cooking.

Just one thing I don't know if they grow on Yew trees but Oyster mushrooms do. Do not eat any fungi growing on a Yew Tree.

I have mainly found Chicken of the woods  growing on Oak's.

Sorry mate didn't reply to this part of your post properly. I have found mainly on Oak and Cherry, never thought about which side of the tree before. Thinking back to last year I picked some from an Oak it had some on the South side and some on the West side.

South side small and young.

This was higher but a really good example, West side and a small bit starting South side.
