Agreed. Totally.

On the terriers as far as I understand you can put a dog to ground to bolt a fox in protection of game birds and if the dog gets stuck you can dig it out and remove the dog and whilst there if you see the quarry you can dispatch it with an appropriate fire arm. You are allowed to use a lurcher to flush, to mark to ground and to either retrieve the dead quarry when shot or track and dispatch the quarry if a poor shot is made.

That’s the way I thought it was fella didn’t know if there’d been a bit of movement on the dispatch fire arm needed in the equation. ive a mate that’s a long standing terrier man as long as I’ve known him he’s always complained about having to carry a firearm to make his work legal said to me about a month ago he’ll be calling it a day after his last terrier is finished he’ll not be replacing his terriers bit sad really as he’s always kept his own type of terrier as long as I’ve known the guy he said he’ll end his hunting days with a lurcher an a couple of ferrets an go back we’re he started as a kid he said the terrier game every thing’s against you he said the amount of times he’s had do Gooders pulling up accusing of digging badgers an having to speak to the law what he’s doing an proving who he his an he’s permitted to be there an he’s all above board he said he can’t be arsed with it no more

9 hour round trip, collected my dog pup today. The fella is a gentleman, pot of tea and sandwiches waiting! Spent a good 2 hours talking! Cheers mate!

Dddc is right. A genuine man. Pups were finished well and well socialised. Offered us a pot of tea aswell. ? REBEL:

The wheaton cross isn't a new thing they've been about a long time.  Litter I had 25 years ago and they were about long before that.

I don’t particularly like fire arms. However it’s no coincidence that we are the only country really with a culture of draw dogs etc and it’s banned whereas most of Europe it’s legal and celebrated. Gonna upset some folk here I know but there’s a time and a place for a lurcher and at the end of a dig isn’t it unless certain circumstances conspire.

Me and my lad were talking about how things have changed last night . I used to do Terriers for a small foot pack and preferred lurchers catching em but did have a few guns come with us. Terriers were in the quad and no one came nosing what we were doing. The banter was brilliant no bitching just enjoying the day. If you shot and missed or worse still your Lurcher jacked on a fox then you had to stick the piss taking for the rest of the day but all banter. If we went away on an invite always popped in the local for a pint covered in dirt stinking of fox . I used to pick my mate up and his well worked Lurcher and Terriers would always be tied up outside his front gates while he got his stuff ready. How times have changed .Farmers have passed away and their sons control foxes with night vision on a lot of the ground. Still bits and pieces about but a lot of people walking and most are anti hunting even when they know nothing on how humane it is when carried out properly.
