Finally got some work done on the TX.

Recommended Posts

I've fancied having a bit of a change with the TX for a while now so, a few months ago I ordered a red Aussie seal, a Williams peep sight and a 3d printed front post sight thingy that I saw on e bay.

I've fitted a set of Nicks (TinBum) guides and short stroke extension inside with the new seal - it gave the results that I was expecting: 1 click on the ABT and a nice quick shot cycle.

I've never used a Williams peep sight before but, I'm impressed with the quality and, I like how simple it is to look through and aim.

The front sight is fairly decent for the price - it's a firm fit without tightening up the grub screw underneath.
Time will tell how well it lasts - I'd happily pay upto £40ish for one made from ally with a bit of fibre optic

Now, I just need to get around to zeroing it all in - I'm hoping that I can keep the Williams sight where it is without having to adjust it too low because this will give me issues with the cheek piece on the stock.
Also, if I have to move the rear sight forward, I lose a bit of what I can see.
If need be, I've got a bit of orange sight fibre optic that a friend gave me (cheers Si  ) that I can experiment with on the top of the front sight to help bring the nose down a little but, I'm going to wait and see how it goes before I break out the dremel.

The set up feels nice to shoulder - I didn't have a huge scope on there anyway but, I can feel the weight difference.

Once all the current madness is over, I'm rather looking forward to trying this on the HFT course.

Looks good jon??

if there are any rifles that can benefit from open sights and scope weight save it’s the tx’s and 97’s bloody good bits of kit but heavy

I use to like shooting with open sights till me old mince pies started playing up:(

Have fun with it when the madness is over?

I did the same to mine internals wise...

Transformed the gun no end, took it from a hold sensetive gun to a pleasure to shoot gun.

I do like those kits - I'm hoping to get my mitts on a Mk1 TX one day....... apparently they have the volume and shot cycle that a short stroke is copying :hmm:

You're not wrong mate - I always said if AA made a 3/4 size version of the TX I reckon it would be a winner - less cylinder volume for proper sub 12 and, more buyers would go for the lighter frame

I do like open sights - but this set up will definitely shorten hunting ranges. It's no where near as precise as a scope.

.......... I might have to knock up a little 10m bell target in the back garden

Cheers Rez - I'm pleased with it

It's form an Ebay seller called Alchemy Air Werks in Leesburg Georgia.

.......... he's a decent bloke - he even declared a lower value on the packaging  (without me asking) so that I avoided any extra charges when it arrived in the UK

I like the look of the Williams rear sight Jon, very very nice indeed.  I may have some green fibre optic if you need any more, not seen it for a while but sure its around somewhere.

There is the specialist company in Ireland who do a huge range of front and rear sights if you want to progress the project https://www.intershoot.co.uk/acatalog/Rearsights.html

Hark at the price of some that kit ?

......... I don't doubt that it's good gear but, some of them cost more than my whole set up.

........ that's for the proper professionals that know how to shoot properly

Thanks for the offer mate - I'll give you a shout if I want to try the green fibre - much appreciated

Looks good Jonjon - have fun buddy :good:.

While we are on the subject guess what I`ve bought for the HW77 long you and Jimmy once owned, yep just bought the front and rear sights from a chap breaking an early MK2 HW 77 long :boogy:.

Well I too fancy some of the old days open field sights shooting, if my eyes will allow, if not she's at least " complete " again. :D
