Lures, flies, floats and anything else your making for fishing

Recommended Posts

Moving on from lifelong cumbrian fantastic spoon thread  I thought it would be a good idea to have a dedicated thread for all things fishing that we make ourselves.

I've just started making some of my own pike lures, here's a couple of jointed swimbaits and a couple of glide baits  at various  stages but none finished yet  as I constantly seem to be waiting  for stuff to  be delivered. I've just got myself a airbrush but not used it yet as I'm waiting for paints to arrive but  looking forward to having a go........anyway get your own creations up

kanny   those plugs are little works of art!

Ive been making bits and bobs but my floats ,while they work ,only look decent from a distance(except when they are hanging in a tree !). I suppose it's partly because l'm lazy and a bit of a numpty with tools but also because in my case floats tend to be fairly temporary possessions !

l'm determined to make fishing fun this Season and go a bit primitive. So l've made a horse hair fly line and some shorter lengths for fishing with a stick and hook lengths.

I've even made some bone and thorn hooks but bone is not a good material for tiny hooks and l won't  use either because they will be rough on a fish's mouth. The bone hair rigs are a joke l couldn't resist?

Instead l've made some little metal hooks from pins just to keep the DIY theme going. I'm not going after anything big but just want the satisfaction of  catching a  tiddler or two on basic peasant gear.

There are also a couple of bamboo swim feeders in one picture. I actually used one last year to catch my first barbel.
