Well our first shoot of the year went well. It was cold but dry and a bit of sun appeared. Bag was 122 head comprising of 57 duck 56 pheasant 7 partridge and 2 pigeon. My own contribution wa

It’s been frosty the last couple of mornings, it’s very welcome , hopefully it will kill a few bugs . Unfortunately the Maize and cover crops don’t like it and they will soon be unviable as a drive .

Our first shoot tomorrow , first drive thin out the four hundred mallard. They are flying really well now because we have been flushing them off the pit for weeks now. Loads of pheasant and partridge about as well.

Todays job is going to someone with a christmas tree plantation that is having them damaged by Roe. My mate has volunteered me for this job which will likely turn into a trauma. The good thing is i won't have to mess about doing a deer count and a cull plan, he just wants them all off his ground. Time to dust off the 30/06, good job i loaded a pile of ammo during the first lockdown.

Up the shoot for first light and it’s very wet. There’s a fare few birds in 3 of the main drives, the amount of wheat the lad put down over a week ago is stupid, a couple of the feed areas look like a wheat field where it has germinated, I’m over the far side now and the track is full of swollen wheat, he’s now been banned from feeding ☹️

Try putting a layer of straw over the top of wheat, it'll get them scratting about & pecking and pick up some grain. Might save it being a total waste.

We feed on straw ( well I do, someone else had other ideas) it keeps them entertained and stop the deer hovering it up, I might as well of put the bike away and set off rowing ?‍♂️ around the shoot today, the track were flowing with the amount of water that was coming down, I was going to have a walk around and shoot some squizzers but I was just to wet, a did manage a big bitch sqizzer off one of the feeders on my way back to the farm ?

I would not let half the lads on your land they would use the sheep as targets with the big Red Cross on them , lol ?

They'd have to be quick; big red ❌ means slaughterhouse on Monday!
