The Beretta action should be run dry. Any oil in thee will absorb combustion gas and powder to create a thick tar like substance. It a common issue with them.

It’s been frosty the last couple of mornings, it’s very welcome , hopefully it will kill a few bugs . Unfortunately the Maize and cover crops don’t like it and they will soon be unviable as a drive .

What a nightmare last night was ?

Went over my mates place where he knew was some Cubs. Out with his .22/250 and C50. On entering the field I spotted 2 Cubs immediately with the thermal but not a safe shot , then spotted a 3rd which I coaxed in to around 60 yds , my mate missed it with 2 shots ? playback of video shows he was on for both shots , had nothing but trouble with this C50.

Went back to his and got .243 out , soon into another fox and again missed with 2 shots ( later discovered 2nd shot had hit it's back leg )

By now I was losing the will to live as there was foxes screaming all over the place , there was actually 7 in the field at one stage.

So back to his and got the .22lr out this time , shot a cub but it managed to get away into some thick cover, can it get any worse.

Then I spotted the 1st injured fox which he shot with the .22 but again it managed to get into the hedge and I couldn't find it with the thermal..

So back to his again and got the dog who found it straight away half way down a rabbit hole.

I told my mate to check all the rifles at the weekend as it's the worst performance I have ever seen in my life.

Only bonus is there are still 5 foxes there at least and I will be back hopefully with a better result next time.

I reckon you should have packed in earlier on, even foxes deserve bit more respect than just peppering shots at them in hope.

I agree foxes do deserve respect that is why we tried different rifles and then packed in when the night was a disaster.

I had seen enough and decided to finish and come back another night.

and then packed in

After choosing a 22lr with which two foxes got shot & injured but managed to drag themselves off & you couldn't find?? We've all missed & not everyone is bang flop, but this just sounds like bad choices by both of you, should have gone to pub after 243 missed.

I'd have kept this one to myself Mark, not posted on a public forum ffs ??‍♂️?
