Biggest respect to you and I hear you on the new Houghton lads and their hounds the craze went south and north but for me the midland lads had the best ?

Only two shows worth going to was the Woodhouse show and Barnsley proper dogs proper men happy days ?

where I grew up there were hares every ware lots of opertunity for a keen young man with a good dog and no bother to be fair.

there have been and always  will be special   dogs that come along, and every young chap trying to breed a world beater rushes up with their pride and joy and pays their money and takes a chance, for me your better going to its father, a proven producer, over the years there have bean several famous dogs with no connection or a week one to the old lines that were  used a fare bit and produced nothing, so depth of breeding is key when breeding coursing dogs.   pre ban

Love the pics pal it was a different world back then hares everywhere and rabbits too I always thought I was born ten years too late and yet still had game a plenty and no mither ?

Can always remember as a kid amount of hares rabbits and foxes you would see on a walk out..

It went downhill from me being fourteen and first running dogs ..

By your posts I'm taking it you a decade older than me pal good on ya and to still be into running dogs that's some going

They were happy days when folk didn't mind you catching your dinners and catching other folk theirs as well  .

I don't know about you but I'm glad I'm on my way out and not on my way in ?

Not just the game but wildlife in general government is too blame not us crop sprays weedkiller insectisides etc

And the attitude that we can't walk the land we were born on it does my head in ?

Like you I expect we shall soldier on come what may but having to walk a land not lifting with wildlife doesn't make it easy nor as enjoyable ?

Keep sharing pics they are important they are history atvb

Help Required as to ancestry /history of my saluki /Greyhound.
I have just lost my dog of a lifetime to cancer, she was 11/12 yrs old.I am truly heartbroken.
I'm not a hunter, but have always loved sight hounds in particular salukis.
My dog Fern was a very distinguishable sighthound ,her colouring alone a mutated dilute. Was quite a show stopper. I'd have people literally stopping cars to ask what she was as she held herself well and looked awesome.
She was Steel and tan with a white butterfly on chest. White tips on feet.
      Fur like velvet and shone.
      A glamourous looking dog.
She passed through I believe 5 lurcher men before coming to me age around 4 yrs.
      I had her 8 yrs.
I have  sketchy details of her young life and know she was initially used as a racing dog and then a lampers dog. Until she hurt her spine and broke a toe.
Fern was born around 2009,lived in North East England (Northumberland).
I believe she had two litters of puppies (do you have one?)
Lived Winlaton, Mickley,Prudhoe , Ryton, Greenside, Horsley.
I believe her father (sire) may of being khan jihad.
I believe her mother (dam) was a steel greyhound and was a Irish coursing champion.
Does anyone know who that might be?
      Who bred Fern?
Does her heritage fit time scale wise?
I would dearly love to know as I said, totally in bits at her loss.
I just want to try and recreate her or seek out someone who might be able too from same lineage.
Whilst I'm not a hunter, I turned Fern from huntress to helper in that I used her skills and abilities to bring deer out to me to photograph, as I'm a professional photographer. We were quite a team.
I just loved everything about that girl.
      Thanks for any help received.

What in your opinions would be the best thing to breed a deerhound/greyhound to but still looking to keep size and speed just something nice to throw into the mix or even more greyhound what do you lot think?...
      Cheers
