Top pic of proper salukis Mc bless ya ?

Threads gone well astray it was about Scouser I will make these last few posts and hope it goes back to him as a hound ?

Some great pics of old salukis when they were at their best sadly the Saluki lot mostly women didn't have the foresight to know what a Saluki was bred for and that's it's herding abilities to keep the hare near its owner they ran them as greyhounds and too many didn't know how to condition a hound so they went downhill rapidly from the sixtys and seventies .

Don't get me wrong I'm appreciative of what's gone before and I love the fact I can trace ancestors back further than I could the working lurchers.

Breeding fascinates me and today's good salukis here are imho the best there is in decades as they have been bred to run in good old England on plough etc and not a desert I hear all the arguments they are thick they are too slow etc.

But get a good well bred English Saluki they are very fast can stay and are extremely biddable as they have been run for generations single and bred best to best ..

I kept lurchers and I now keep pures if I thought lurchers were better i would keep them still but I still say they are not your perfect hound not a beginner's hound for sure and can't be kept in a pen they need to be family.

Victor Henderson was mentioned he imported a pure that killed a lot of Gazelle in the middle East that dog is in the coursing dogs we run today but wasn't used much by the show lot

I have a few pics will upload them just for the crack if someone does a Saluki thread then we should carry it on but let's not let Scouser get forgot he's a good dog by all accounts and this thread was about him ATB

Sorry to go off topic did the Trevor dog sire the lizard.Remember some lads from Rotherham getting dogs off some one connected to the trevor dog.

Can remember the lizard bud had a skin condition if it's dog I remember But don't know if out of Trevor pal .

I ran with Trevor bred lurchers when I started out I know Lou Cuggar Edwards who owned him and hes still about but not into the dogs anymore he bred a lot of stuff out of Trevor the ones to greyhounds were lacking but the ones to lurchers were top drawer on filling a bag especially with the deer sorry I don't know any more ?

Help Required as to ancestry /history of my saluki /Greyhound.
I have just lost my dog of a lifetime to cancer, she was 11/12 yrs old.I am truly heartbroken.
I'm not a hunter, but have always loved sight hounds in particular salukis.
My dog Fern was a very distinguishable sighthound ,her colouring alone a mutated dilute. Was quite a show stopper. I'd have people literally stopping cars to ask what she was as she held herself well and looked awesome.
She was Steel and tan with a white butterfly on chest. White tips on feet.
      Fur like velvet and shone.
      A glamourous looking dog.
She passed through I believe 5 lurcher men before coming to me age around 4 yrs.
      I had her 8 yrs.
I have  sketchy details of her young life and know she was initially used as a racing dog and then a lampers dog. Until she hurt her spine and broke a toe.
Fern was born around 2009,lived in North East England (Northumberland).
I believe she had two litters of puppies (do you have one?)
Lived Winlaton, Mickley,Prudhoe , Ryton, Greenside, Horsley.
I believe her father (sire) may of being khan jihad.
I believe her mother (dam) was a steel greyhound and was a Irish coursing champion.
Does anyone know who that might be?
      Who bred Fern?
Does her heritage fit time scale wise?
I would dearly love to know as I said, totally in bits at her loss.
I just want to try and recreate her or seek out someone who might be able too from same lineage.
Whilst I'm not a hunter, I turned Fern from huntress to helper in that I used her skills and abilities to bring deer out to me to photograph, as I'm a professional photographer. We were quite a team.
I just loved everything about that girl.
      Thanks for any help received.

What in your opinions would be the best thing to breed a deerhound/greyhound to but still looking to keep size and speed just something nice to throw into the mix or even more greyhound what do you lot think?...
      Cheers
