Boer war pattern horseknife

Recommended Posts

Wonderful craftsmanship!!

Don't want to high jack the thread, but I'm a huge fan of rope knives. In the first world War, as people had to deal a lot with horses, the issued knives had marlin spikes to loosen knots and belts.

I had these two folders, from Hubertus and Leo Solingen, issued to the German marine before 64 as they changed to another model. As a few years ago it was impostor find information about theses knives, I started to gather information, called companies, German ministry of defense, and at the end, the information you find today about 'Bordmesser BUND' is the result.

Here the pre 64 folders and the ones produced from 64 til the early 90ies.

The German post war model is nearly a 1:1 copy of the English one.

The new ones are very very rugged, a 10 years ago I found on ebay a 30 used ones and bought them for a ridiculous price. Only 2 needed some taps with a hammer on the rivet to fix some blade wobble. Today they are made in Asia and quality is far worse, these are marked TSR or MFH.

The good old ones are from

OFW, Dr. Feike, JS, Köller, Fox

it still has some battle scars and small scratches....and it will fade a little in time....he made a pouch for it which is the correct size and shape for that model multi-tool....when the virus thing is over i will take another few pics of it with the pouch........
