Hi I have a hw77k .22 it's got a new spring and new piston seal but will not hold zero - the fps and ft lbs are up and down all over the place - have put around 80 pellets through to try and settle but wondering if there is too much moly grease on the spring and piston ??? Any help gratefully received

Hi Jiffjaff,

Buddy have you had her apart or a gunsmith ?

If a gunsmith take her back to him and tell him your troubles.

If you have done this work it could be

           1, Dieseling

           2, Loose stock screws

           3, Faulty scope

At a guess, from what you describe, she has far too much lubricant in her that's getting where it should`nt.

Strip and degrease, then apply the lightest of applications in the right places internally I,m sure some of the fettling type of lads will be along shortly.:good:

                                  Good Luck

Right de,grease it and re, apply the grease Now this can be a pain in the ass IE

if it twangs then you will need to take it apart again and add a little more each time un till its right

Is there a smell of grease burning when you fire the rifle

is there smoke coming out of the barrel

if so it is dieseling and to much grease on the spring

if you did it your self did you grease the piston (the piston seal only needs a touch of grease and very little on the piston )

When you had it apart did you clean the spring chamber out of all old grease .

Check the breach seal away to do this is even if it looks ok is load the rifle up and put soap suds around the loading port

and fire the rifle off keeping an eye on the soap suds if the suds blow away then it needs a new breach seal ,

did you put the right spring in it

and what pellets do you use try a few other pellets first before stripping it

and what scope is on it pellets and scope would be my first choice to look at first
