Why can't we make our own, I'm sure it couldn't take much to set up some sort of factory to make face masks at least. And go from there. In stead of paying China or some other places, pay our own to make them.

The products must have a minimum standard they have to meet weather it's made in UK/Ireland or China .. who's going to make a product superior than what's asked of them , fact is China as cheap work forces and the means to produce things en mass so that's why they go there .

There's two American factories here that make medical supplies. My brother works in one and my niece in the other.

Great jobs they say, great money and benefits..

If an American company can come over here to open up a factory, why can't our government do the the same thing, make the same product and sell them.

Well obviously they have a minimum standard .. 70% of them didn't make the grade .. wether that minimum standard is checked in China or on delivery how am I meant to know .. 

We used to send stuff all round the world when I worked in a factory we checked it before it left but sometimes the factory it was sent to would reject it because there testing process slightly differed to ours .. 

By no means am I supporting China btw im just going off things I know/have seen to be true .. if we could have everything made in the UK/Ireland it would be brilliant bit we can't compete with the slanty eyes on cost

They're probably going to re-draw that line after this one but a month ago no one was interested. Now the demand has gone through the roof the market is trying to adapt.

This is the point I was trying to make the other day. 

Make our own equipment for our own medical supplies and staff, not just for now, but for all time.

Not just  medical supplies, but anything else we can produce at home, do it. We have the infrastructure and bodies to make it happen. 

I know cost is a factor as chid pointed out, and he's right, so who ever is pricing these costs should recalculate it.
