Had one to bolt and seek refuge in this log pile.

Yesterday we had an ice storm in Dixie.Temps at daylight were 8 ° or -13 Celsius. We don't get much weather this cold so we took advantage. Our effort was rewarded.

Thanks y'all Hope not to bore.

We received 5 inches of snow last night. So we headed back to the swamps this morning. The snow left an interesting story.

As soon as I released the terrier he got a small possum really shallow lol.

We pushed on through the swamp to a local latrine. There was fresh sign everywhere.

I looked across the creek and saw something that made me smile.

The terrier entered and mixed it up for a few minutes.20 yards away a large otter bolted.

He ran through a briar thicket and onto a frozen mud flat.Suddenly he vanished. The terrier was running around trying to sort it out.Eventually the terrier made his way to a small creek.I toted him across when I seen this.

He made it to a large creek. The terrier entered and we seen his bubbles leaving.I knew this was the end of the trail as he had reached deep water.I put the terrier in the sack and sat down and waited. After about 10 minutes he arose in the big water 100 yards down stream. He let out a squawk and vanished. The crossbred terrier I was gifted has done well this season.Im proud to feed him.

Beaver are vegetarian prey animals. They will always try to bolt.I do have a few sets where they won't bolt.I have seen two different first season bitches get drug across the river.I have never had a terrier to drown while hunting. If you read the old otter hunting books you will notice most terriers died from the hounds.I think it just depends on what your accustomed to as when I watch y'all's ratting videos Im a nervous wreck watching the dogs around moving heavy machinery.Beaver build the sets then otter and coon move in with them.So if I can locate beaver then I will find other quarry also.Coon are more dangerous in the water. But can be dealt with.Terriers are smart enough to adapt and overcome in my opinion.
