Rabbit population Ireland ?

Recommended Posts

Was out this afternoon to a place i waste since late last spring. There was a small number of rabbits left, now nothing. This place up until 2 ,2.5 years ago always held a very large healthy population of rabbits.

Now there's one fox den, and a badger sett. This is like this for many many miles around here

Afraid so mate 5 years or so expect

What was it rhd or whatever its called

Yes, unfortunately it was imo,  used to find bodies above ground, without  a mark on them. It would take a lot of rabbits just to start a restocking programme, and I'm not sure would they survive.

There's miles and miles of land like this, all cleared out of rabbits.

Nice 2 see them about I would imagine sir

Hares

Plenty of hares as well. They come down off the hill into the small fields at night to graze on the green grass.

The fields here range from 1 to 3 acers, with 3ft single stone wall surround. Some topped with barbed wire. Ideal for a whippet or grew.

The hill aren't steep, but peaty and granite.  Not much tall heather.  A good strong lurcher type would handle them, as long as they have good feet.

Your not nosy lol.

Don't have one now, after the last died, I didn't see the point in replacing her, since there was no rabbits left.

Maybe if they returned I'm might get a pup in the future..

It was whippet, and whippet lurchers i preferred for the land that is available to me.
