I read thread this thread when it started and thought you've been getting some good detailed advice so there was nothing l could add.

Then l remembered what it was like when l had my first air rifle. In those far off days we started off with whatever rifle we could afford or was handed down to us. Most of them were pretty crude compared with what is in use today. A rifle like your xorcet would've been a thing of dreams.

 Persevere with it !

Forget pointy pellets; the Rws should be pretty good or maybe a heavy Jsb. We  had to make do with what was cheapest in the local shop, usually a choice between soft Milbros or hard Wasps .

Make sure your scope is tight and zero it at 20 yards . When you are confident the rifle and you are shooting straight, maybe see what you can do at longer range.

There  is no shame in confining yourself to short range hunting. In fact you will learn a lot more about fieldcraft and proper stalking than you will if you chop and change your rifles in search of some holy grail, or go straight in with a super dooper Pcp .

Enjoy what you have to hand for a while . Then you will be able to make your own descision about upgrading, or not ......

I'm wondering if l should get my tin hat ?

No hard hat needed as I totally agree.

It is very easy to suddenly rush into buying a new gun when you may not need to JUST YET.  Once you have sorted the scope mount so that the scope sits nice and flat on the scope tube, go back to one of my earlier comments and practice, practice and then practice some more until you are as good as the rufle will allow. During that time you can test a few pellets and in particular, light pellets such as JSB Exact RS,  Air Arms Express  and Falcon Accuracy Plus because in my limited experience with springers, the best groups were with light pellets.  Send me a PM with your name and address and I will send you some pellets to try if you like.

You have plenty of time to find another rifle so in the meantime you can become a better shot with what you have, possibly have it tuned ( there are some clever people on here who may be able to advise you on that subject ) and settled on the best performing pellets, once you have established which works best in that gun, don't change anything.

Food for thought Daniel and just remember, unlike old tarts like me,  you have age on your side to develop your skills in this sport.

Not really, you would be better off using pellets.

Good lad...

I learnt on springers... and my mate went straight on with pcps.

He cant shoot a springer for toffee...

Mind you, he cant shoot a pcp either.

As been said zero at 20m then get your groups spot on, keep the aim point (cross hairs) on the bull and put 10 shots at a time through at each target.

Keep at it buddy... youll be better for it.
