Didn't read all the comments but  it can be European real estate, maybe. But not 1 mln :)  much less. Micro-apartments or student rooms. Just acquire ownership of a real estate and receive an income by renting it out. When making such investments, it’s good to focus on owning the property for at least 5 years, while the yield runs at 3-5% per annum.  It work for property in Germany, for example. The risks in this case are minimal.

No matter how bad the economy that business keeps on ticking.

Any money left over the open a florest near the crematorium

If I had only had 1 million and lived in China I could have possibly  made a lot of money with the new disease doing the rounds..

I've taken the plunge mate... got a run down farm with 17 acres, couple of holiday cottages on it already...there is 1 small pond in the wood...I'm going to clear it and enlarge it, hopefully an acre or so...long term dig another in a field and have holiday let's with fishing .... its bloody hard to keep seeing the end goal as I'm grafting on the place... but 10 years time it's my retirement plan!!
