The Patterdale, also known as a black Fell, comes in rough and smooth. It never has that border look to it.

Just saying like

Plenty down my way in south wales 30 odd years ago, looked almost pure border, but black.

A mate of mine has one now border/patterdale, but fawn/red lol ?

1st terrier i owned for digging was a black terrier that looked about 90% Border

Yep, quite a few of those black border/fell/lakeland types around then. Don't think anyone cared too much really what they were exactly. See the odd one or two similar to that around nowadays, when driving through different villages in the valleys ?

Strange there aint much sign of that border in black dogs today. Maybe other traits pushed through after a couple of crosses. What we dug too years ago must have been mutts lol. No traits of border blood in them.

Dunno mate, they were just called border/lakelands by alot of the terrier men at the time , whether they were black, black and tan, red or grizzle

Yea, I think that is why these days, a lot see Fell types as mere cross breeds more so than an actual type.

Could be mate. But if you go back far enough, weren't they all called 'fell terriers'?

I don't keep terriers, and only tagged along a few times with a few terriermen years ago. Decided it wasn't really for me years ago, even though I like, and have an interest in terriers ?
