Here’s some old pictures of some dogs I’ve had when I was younger.

Not bred as coursing dogs, but caught plenty of hares. I suppose when that’s the main quarry on the land, they learn how to hunt and kill them. Plus they get very fit whilst trying .

when your a kid there's no limits to the work you can throw at your dogs?was out every morning with my terriers and at night with the runners.....having a family and work commitments is a pain these d

The 3 in the first picture (mum, dad and daughter) had a real knack and love for taking feather. I thought it was pretty normal as a kid and that all dogs did it, but I’ve never had any since and my old saluki cross has never caught a bird in his life, and he lived to 14 years old.

I’m 40 so 80’s and 90’s. My parents moved to the country from Manchester when I was 4. They got chickens, goats and a cow..oh and a couple of lurcher pups. Just pets really but I used to let them chase hares and rabbits. I then begged for a pup and they finally let me have one out of there last litter. (Top picture). I was about 10 then. I’ve had Lurcher’s ever since. Got my first ferret a year later and just went on from there. Stat (Stainton) had a couple of pups from the same parents, Fly and Cass.

Very true you just mold with the dogs and them you. Plus back then the country was a freer place.

      **sorry for the double post**
I know I'm probably going to get the piss severely ripped out of me for asking this, but
Has anyone ever successfully trained a deaf lurcher (from two working parents and I own her 4 year old sister who is an awesome little bunny basher.)
Genetically she has potential, but...what do you experts think?
She's not a Double merle by the way, it's extreme piebald/white head. Her vision is perfect

      Evening all,
I'm lucky enough to have first pick from a friends litter. He’s crossed his Saluki dog with his Collie Bull GH bitch. I’ve only seen videos of the litter as he’s based in UK. Few different characters in the litter, some sit reluctant off in the back ground others play among themselves two are incredibly forward one more than the other.

What key things do you look for when picking a litter? I’ve mostly ran mine on rabbits, reds and some others.

      Go stead,
      oshea

Just got this stunning little bitch, nearly 12 months old, Deerhound x Bedie grey.
I used to go out with my dad's Lurchers when I was a kid but I'm a female in my 30's now and struggling to get back into the swing of things.
I'd love to have this girl knocking down bunnies but I just don't know where to start, I've barely seen a rabbit or and other quarry since I moved here.
Any of you experts in my area fancy giving me some advice/practical experience (hunting related only)
