Well yesterday morning was a 4am start and a 500+ mile round trip in the hope of photographing mountain hares, spent 6 hours on the hills searching and scouting, 3 hares seen in that time and a total of 20 minutes spent with a young mountain hare... I had a b&b booked as was planning to spend a full day with the hares and stay until sunset for the hope of some backlit images but I cancelled the b&b and decided on the drive home instead due to the lack of opportunities as hares were very scarce on the ground, landed home about 9pm.

Was it worth it ??? I’ll let you cast your own opinions.

Come down to me lad, I’ve plenty on my patch. I must see half a dozen every morning without any effort. You can stay over at mine if you like ??

Thanks for the offer pal, you’re only couple hours drive so no need to stay over although the offer is appreciated...

Are the mountain Hare down your way quite approachable or flighty ???

It would be good to photograph some closer to home ?

Here’s a mountain hare sporting it’s winter pelt, I spent about 7 hours with this individual last year in minus temperatures and a biting winds, heading up again this winter and hoping for snowy conditions.

Just turning now where I am. Spotted three on the hill today ??

They’ll be far easier to spot in their winter pelts, might take you up on your offer in the new year buddy if it’s still open ?
