Sako 85 varmint barrel stock

I've got a .308 sako 85 with the heavy varmint barrel in a laminate stock. It looks lovely and shoots great but weighs a bloody ton.

I was wondering if anyone out there has fitted an aftermarket stock to theirs and still has the standard factory stock lying about? 

Or can recommend a lightweight aftermarket stock that doesn't cost more than the rifle?

Just a thought but I wonder how much it would cost to get it fluted? 

I don't find stocks make a huge difference, but barrel length and OD do.

The barrel is already fluted mate, the mod is nice and light and I'm changing scope to a lighter, and better, one. 

The extra weight is deffo in the stock. It's not horrendous, perfectly usable in fact but i do notice the difference compared to my weatherby .243. 

The laminate is very pretty but i dont think I would go down that route again

I’ve got the same sako in .223 and have been thinking the same as you, it looks good but it’s not much fun carting it about on a long night

its not funny... I sling concrete blocks round all day no problem, after a night of luggin it about I felt like I’d been filled in the next day!!

What about a GRS composite stock Si. There is a cracking rifle specialist rfd near me who does quite a few stocks for various rifles, I will have a look next week for you mate. There should also be some at the Doncaster show. Are you on for the Sunday.

Recon the grs could be the way to fly phil

Not sure if I’ll make it to the show, got a few jobs to knock off but can only do them at weekends

Working weekends Si ? And old pal of mine never even worked Fridays and Mondays because he reckoned that they were too close to the weekend ......
