Why has Hancock no pups for sale?

Plenty of lads have got collie/greys from hancock, and bred them on to produce generation bred stuff

Back in the early 80s  I chose to buy a puppy from David Hancock. He sold me a dog with four legs and a brain.  A wild, untouched blank canvas.As he pointed out ; the rest was up to me . She was a good dog. Others may not have been so lucky ,or understood that  Hancock dogs were not magic beings that had somehow read all the lurcher manuals and knew what was expected of them . If I  lived nearer to him I would've considered another from him and would've had no qualms about popping-in to see if he had anything that took my fancy . But  there are always dogs nearer to home and none of them will have read any of Plummer's books either!

Out of interest ; I wonder if there will be any way of accessing his stud-books and records in the future. It might prevent accidental inbreeding if nothing else.

That won't happen. Nobody is going to put out paperwork for 1000,s of pups for tax reasons alone. All those puppy farms only claim to breed 10% of the actual numbers been churned out especially on non-pedigree dogs with no paperwork. I know of toy breed puppy farmers that were operating on a licence for 16 bitchs or no licence at all that were keeping up to 200 bitchs before the regulations tightened up. It was laughable. When they were due an inspection they were given 2 weeks notice by phone call so they were busy cleaning kennels and moving excess dogs to other locations, then revert back to normal ( over crowding and living in filth)after inspection was done. Register 1 litter from a bitch every 2 year to advertise but breed 3 unregistered litters from her in the same time that went to the dealers and on to a ferry. 1 Metre square pens with 2 bichon friese in them. End of an era my arse. It's people like that flooding the market with whatever breed is fashionable  at the time that has dog pounds overflowing. It works in cycles and they change breeds as quick as they become over popular and drop in value. It was cavalier King Charles,then bichon friese, then Maltese and now its pugs and French bulldogs at €900 a pup. The collie cross was a popular type  because they were bred right out of workers. They are no longer the go to type because the market is flooded with inferior sh1te from people churning out pups. Of course an odd gem will pop up and  there is lads breeding them right small scale but 90% of them I wouldn't take for free let alone give  £350 for one. The bullcross has gone the same route. Any old greyhound to any old bull with neither ever tested.

they've got peds for the collie part on the website, save them, most are related anyway

i had a line bred collie grey she had beardie and border in her with a few dogs from hancocks in the breeding she wasnt the best dog ive ever had but always

gave 100% i was offered a pup from the same line last year but couldnt take a pup on at the time, he added a dog from mr jones last year and is really happy

with the results the pup ive got now is from hancocks as my mate bought her but his dog attacked her a few times and just wouldnt accept her, the thing with

hancocks you got what they said they were sally told my mate they werent really socialised but she was fine after 2 days of the kids playing with her

I would sooner breed my own I know what dogs are in the lines especially on the Collie side , and I will carry on breeding my own because I’m all honesty there’s nothing else out there what catches my eye and I know is my type of dog. Regards Collie John.

Exactly that cj id do the same fella breed me own least ya know what’s in there for ya own needs an bred for your own uses. I look at like this handjob was supposed to be breeding out of work bred collies from working lines that never worked a days in there life’s to find out if the collies used had what it actually takes to be a worthy base blood in a type of Lurchers here’s the question would any one breed a line of Lurchers for work out of Lurchers that have never worked before based on looks alone

You will find a few Hancock bred lurchers in rescue centres but more than that you will find 10 maybe 20 times more lurchers of unknown breeding origins in the same pounds, ,rescue homes etc .varying in ages from 16 weeks too OAP dogs and bitches Hancock has at least 2 what I would describe as dedicated sites on Facebook to his dogs with rarely a dissenting voice on them .so for all his and his dogs detractors he has in equal measure the same amount admirers. So work that one out .???

Exactly gilbey that’s something I’ve always thought about the handjob kennels How he acquired the greyhounds as top form dogs wouldn’t be gifted away to a peddling racket only dogs would be none runners or dogs that pick up injury’s regular good dogs with form stay with the race kennels to breed the next hopefuls

yep all dogs do, but you'd have more confidence breeding off something that had a career and stayed sound
