Should be a good read if he ever write's it as he is a well known figure in the lurcher world and has been around running dogs all his life though from what he was telling me the book would also be about some of the caractures he has come across.

plenty of characters around those parts. you tend to find them in mining areas. for those of us of a certain age.

I recall seeing the old fella in a episode of a  johnny kingdom programme relocating hares caught in longnets. They relocated hares all over the country for years longnetting.

I thought the same mate though tbh some of the old school poachers I have come across in the past who could catch anything that moved had never kept a running dog in their lives.

A old fella near me never kept a lurcher snaring and trapping was his mainstay work. But he also used a dog for marking when ferreting retrieving shot night time phesants and for working bramble patches with stop and poke nets. When i look back it was a opporntunity missed as i only went a few times out ferreting with him in the 80s. i could have learned a fair bit from him but was too intrested in seeing dogs run. He only ever kept springers.

A lot of what i learned as a lad was from an old fella that never had a running dog, just an old mongrel terrier, a few ferrets, nets and snares but I reckon he'd put more game away with them than I ever will. Perhaps running dogs are as much for the love of the sport.

I did most things as a youngster, running dogs are just one tool in the box, but to me the most fun, I had a mongrel when I was a kid bit beagle bit terrier bit sumat else, on the mouch she would knock rabbits out all day and I bet at home time she would of caught as many if not more than the runners, and she would pick up at night as well, good company night fishing, I miss her she cost ten bob from a bloke int pub lol.
