Yea no worries I know that mine is as bright as a button and very obedient as long as it don't intervene with catching stuff lol

collie grey x bull grey so I blame the collie for being a sneaky sod lol

Lol was going to say that lol. I know of a few lurchers with collie and bull in them that were nigh on impossible to deal with 'once they decided to show more interest in sheep' after they'd started working. Couldn't really be trusted 100% again, even after  long and tedious retraining. Made taking them out a great displeasure, rather than a pleasure, their owners words, not mine

Without meaning to hijack this thread, although it is relevant. I've been tinking about the subject of stock training and lurchers, and only lurchers. I wonder what x's or types are least likely to end up as sheep worriors, given that they would've had some sort of basic and stock training?

Never too young for stock breaking, my pup is 4 months old so doing plenty of socialising and basics, 9 months old will try her on a few rabbits during the day out ferreting

Good  mate  all stock trainingredients good . But I wouldn't get any of my pups that close to cattle,as they can be unpredictable. Rather show theme  close buto safety  of a fence, and if I've ever in counted cattle norm they run at the dogs,I am lucky as both of my dogs pass off  quick and keep well away.

Purdeys progress is on DVD or on utube. It will help if your starting out and want an idea of basic training as a newbie.

On the look out for a mutt at the minute, always discounted black ones never been a fan for some reason, but that looks a little beast. Good look with him hope he becomes what u want pal.

As most have said wait till the dog is another few months older, crops are cut and there are easier rabbits about that hopefully haven’t been lamped before. wait for a decent dark windy night, pick and choose your runs..getting early success is good for the dog, knowing he can catch the rabbits and not only just chasing them. Best of luck??

I’d never run a young dog on with the lamp not a good start for any dog. Will learn them bad habits stopping and hedges when bunnies disappear won’t make them burst threw them in the daytime. Take him out in the day get him used to everything then when comes of age and your happy maybe try with the lamp but deffo not lamp first big no no for me

      **sorry for the double post**
I know I'm probably going to get the piss severely ripped out of me for asking this, but
Has anyone ever successfully trained a deaf lurcher (from two working parents and I own her 4 year old sister who is an awesome little bunny basher.)
Genetically she has potential, but...what do you experts think?
She's not a Double merle by the way, it's extreme piebald/white head. Her vision is perfect

      Evening all,
I'm lucky enough to have first pick from a friends litter. He’s crossed his Saluki dog with his Collie Bull GH bitch. I’ve only seen videos of the litter as he’s based in UK. Few different characters in the litter, some sit reluctant off in the back ground others play among themselves two are incredibly forward one more than the other.

What key things do you look for when picking a litter? I’ve mostly ran mine on rabbits, reds and some others.

      Go stead,
      oshea

Just got this stunning little bitch, nearly 12 months old, Deerhound x Bedie grey.
I used to go out with my dad's Lurchers when I was a kid but I'm a female in my 30's now and struggling to get back into the swing of things.
I'd love to have this girl knocking down bunnies but I just don't know where to start, I've barely seen a rabbit or and other quarry since I moved here.
Any of you experts in my area fancy giving me some advice/practical experience (hunting related only)
