Advice on training my 8month old Bull X on the lamp

So you rock up to see the farmer,and your dog kills one of his chickens,or chases a lamb,you get invited to a diferent lamping area,sheep,cattle,horses,lamas,etc,etc are only 1,2 fields away.walking them on the lanes with horses.i can only see the downside of not bothering with stock breaking.

In my best barman voice she never bothered with them I was a bit weary to start with but I’d alway take her along to feed them after a while she’d be out in the garden with them most day no problems at all she didn’t see farm stock till probably just over 4yrs old and that was because I took her to them she never had any sign of interest in them from day one I’ve ran her through sheep loads of time never had no problems When I’ve been on the poach tbh I think I just got lucky with her long story short I moved locations were stock is about daily my young bitch I haven’t stock broke her as such she just fitted in she mimicked her mum she was about 6month old first time she see stock if they were worth running her mum would be running them so she’s no interest this young bitch I’ve taught  recall,retrieve,walk to heal jump obstacles and on command,sit,stay and to work to hand signals she’s self taught stock breaking  just by fitting in day to day life but to be honest as much as I like having a pretty decent trained dog I mean so much of it isn’t really needed as bad as it sounds depending on your location an if you do nights out for nights out all of what I’ve taught is redundant bar recall or the extension of recall retrieving she don’t need to jump in to fields really at all the new local land has sties but if out on the beam I don’t even need to recall her she knows what’s expected of her she picked the lamp game up stupid quickly to her lamp on means look release off slip because I use slip lead means go lamp off means recall and hopefully with a retrieve it’s only like that because of recall an the willing to please me even out ferreting she’s just fitted in and out bushing if I’ve seen something she’s not I recall her an point to the direction or point to we’re ive seen something an leaves it to her i personally believe everything with having a working dog is around a recall be it lamping,bushing,ferreting if there’s no recall it don’t work for you it works for its self 

we keep a few horses on a friends farm,they got sheep,cows etc,my young bitch been around them all since first jabs,no problem, stock broken from day 1, cant walk a dog in wales without it being stockbroken....still loads of clowns who don't botherI started my young bitch lamping and hunting up by day over in england in places where there's no stock other than gamebirds,there's no barbed wire about,fences etc,big hundred acre and more feilds .....problem now is she thinks she can just keep running and hitting cover to catch stuff....she's not aware of wire and has had some lucky escapes.....if she don't learn no running sense soon then she be gone before xmasout of season now I'm keeping to small forestry blocks and hily sheep fields so she starts switching on abitshe gets it or she's brown breadI get about on invites throughout the season....could be anywhere...a dog with no recall,not stockbroken wouldn't go down to well,2 most important things imo,everything else will hopefully come

You get the odd dog that just knows and shows no interest in stock. I had one once he hit two nearly and hardly saw a sheep then one day lost a hare and had to come back through a flock and never even glanced at them. He just new his vocation in life and was bomb proof.

On the flip side my present dog which is a bull cross I have spent so much time around sheep its ridiculous and we got there in the end but I will never trust him. It detracts from him big time because you just can't relax but we cope.

Had mine round sheep cows and horses since a pup there's bloody loads of um round me horses and cows is fine but sheep all depends on the day it seems he will walk by them and not look once some days other days he's after them but he's slowly learning the hard way! But he will run a bunny through sheep and not go for them but don't do that anymore as can't 100% trust him at the moment but I'm sure by the end of summer he will no not to go near them it's mainly when they run then he thinks it's open season!! Pain in the ass

Mine was same. One day I walked around a field with lambs bouncing out the hedge in front of him. He was impeccable  stopping until they crossed in front before moving forward.

Next day same field as soon as we came through the gate he spotted one at the bottom of the field and took off like a bullet. Lucky he was on a long line

I have seen more collie xs prone to show a interest in sheep wether that's the herder in them im not sure but any cross can  and will take them I can't stand I'll mannered dogs not even broken to stock just lazy owners and normally they get passed because of it but I have found running venison regular pre ban does test them with sheep especially in half light or when they suddenly jump out a ditch or Heather

Said the same about my old dog a few years ago on here, re venison. Was shot down in flames, again, and that I was wrong. Dogs steady to sheep don't get less trustworhty after they've taken a few deer

If this was pre ban I would be in two mind showing mine deer after the trouble getting him straight with sheep. He has a hair trigger but he can't mistake a sheep for a rabbit but if he started scanning the ground for bigger things I could see him making a few wrong choices. But maybe he would surprise me I don't give him enough credit some times

Terry I don't mean any offense matey but All this shite you hear about bullxs take with a pinch of salt they are one of the most loyal eager to please  and trainable xs you could meet all crosses will have there faults some more than others but normally the bull x loves to graft and please it's owner  how you mould that what's counts

Yea no worries I know that mine is as bright as a button and very obedient as long as it don't intervene with catching stuff lol
