FAC renewal - Medical Report

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I wonder if any of you have had any experience with this.....

I am in the process of renewing my FAC/SGC and as part of the process I have to write to my GP to ask him to send a medical report to Kent Firearms dept.

I have written to my GP twice now using the generic letter that is enclosed with my FAC application form.

I have no problem paying for the report but when a invoice landed through my letterbox for £128 ! I was shocked to say the least. I presume as soon as I make payment then the medical practice will send my report of to the FAC dept.

What are your thoughts ?

This is exactly what I hate about the firearm licensing of this land. The police have been given authority to make it up as they wish. Despite there being no basis in law. If basc were

Because they don't take a look they are just trying to cover their own arses like normal by getting you to do their job for them. And pay for it.

When I was told by my GP they want a report I told him to not say a word.

My renewed licence turned up like normal!

Try to remember for the future;

THE COUNTRY IS RUN BY MORONIC BACK STABBING TWO FACED CONTROL FREAKS!

It may help you cope next time.

I also thought that if they didn't hear from your GP they presume all is well and renew your ticket.

I'd be wanting a breakdown of how they justify a charge of so much, make a complaint etc and make a stink, make sure you get your moneys worth if you do have to pay! Will make them think if we all opose obscene charges like this!

it'd be cheaper to move to Scotland ffs.

When I applied for my fac/sgc I received a letter from my gp with an invoice for £20 for the report, sent off a cheque all good. I then spoke to BASC about something else, who informed me that gp’s apparently aren’t allowed to charge for the report, I was going to chase it up but for £20 it would cost me more in time. My neighbour on the other hand was charged £60, so who knows. But if you are a member of BASC worth a call.

There does seem uncertainty/variation around the country on this.

I don't think there is any doubt a doctor/surgery can charge for such a letter, but historically I believe any such charge was due to the region and not the individual.

This is a growing problem area and need proper clarification.

I’ve just applied for renewal of my FAC/SGC and as delswal quotes above I just ticked a box to give my consent to which I do agree with, as if some ones got mental issues it might not be a good idea to issue them Firearms.

Well I know its not a good idea because some one I know who successfully applied for a Shotgun had serious mental issues and it ended in tragedy but that’s another story not for sharing on here.

That's my point friend.

They, despite having our consent do not check up ( I tested them on this by not giving my consent and then when they got in touch I asked if they checked last time, I also asked my doctor if they ever checked and I was told no) so to get a report signed by your doctor but paid by you saves them of not just some work but also from some responsibility!

It smells of lawyers to me and did from day one!

Public safety has nothing to do with this. It's purely the old boys protecting their positions when or if something goes wrong!
