I have to beg the question as to what kind of man runs a dog and has so little respect for its life that when it has given its all for you and died tying you don't even have the respect to bury the poor thing but just throw it in the river like trash

You have no need to tell me about keeping the best of the best and breeding from them so these animals can hit the heights , I have had working dogs for years now ,  through runners , terriers and herding / driving dogs . I just can't get my head round the lack of respect shown to the animal thats served you  until death .

I have always been of the opinion that the more time invested into a dog the more you get out of it if it be walking interacting with it socialising etc . I never ever wanted a cricket scoring  kiling machine . A few bunnies etc thats enough day and night fur feather and a swimmer. And to be honest i have never had a dog that couldnt do all these but then again i have only had about 7 lurchers all my life with at least 2 of them overlapping. My humble opinion is certain individuals want it doing things way to young putting a strain on the dog and introducing them to game way to early . A dog is no different than a young adult in the fact it hasn't matured eithier physically or mentally before 12 months . As for some certain individuals they will get a good dog once in awhile it's nailed on as they go through that many and no doubt miss a few through impatience and ignorance .everybody wants something different from there dogs I understand that but the fact that if you can not be bothered to keep a dog over the summer well in my book you shouldn't be allowed one full stop. It's not costing hundreds of pounds to feed etc. And if it's innoculations you should be barred from keeping a dog end of.

Good post that, and what I've been saying for years ?

I must be the only one that loves looking through dog advertisments then..?

Still get that same thought i did when i was a kid, looking through the Exchange & Mart.... 'that looks interesting, I wonder what that dog could do'....

All that 'no one sells a good dog' stuff is total bollox. There are plenty of folk with money to burn and the attention span of a goldfish these days, who get rid of very well bred dogs for a multitude of reasons.

Sure, you didn't bring it on but give it a bit of attention and it'll probably be right. Saves both time and probably the dogs neck if you do too..! ?

Another good post. I've sold a couple of dogs, for reasons I'm not going into,  that were showing good promise as youngsters. Sometimes, genuinely good, unspoiled youngsters do turn up for sale

Provided an unwanted youngster is injury free, then you should be able to mould it into what you want it to do. Most will relish the fact that someone is providing stimulus and tune in really fast.

A recent example is the young couple who moved in next door to me. She keeps a couple of horses and wanted a lurcher as a pet and to accompany her on hacks. Off they went to the local rescue center and came back with a fine young broken coated bitch, which i thought may have a drop of Saluki in its make up. It came with the name Peanut and it stuck.

The deal was the obligatory 'get her spayed', which was done a week after she came home and within a couple of months of good grub and excercise, Peanut was a really smart looking mutt.

Arriving home from work one day and the couple stopped me, they asked if i ate the rabbits i caught and could i teach them how to gut and skin a rabbit. I asked why and it turns out Peanut has become quite the catcher of game on them morning hacks. And apart from foxes she was taking everything else with ease. It got to the point where she was no longer welcome on hacks, as she was dissapearing to catch her quarry. That Saluki blood has really come to the fore..! ?

Like you say mate, sometimes very good youngsters do turn up for sale, or are aquired from rescue kennels. Sometimes people are forced  for various reasons, to move a youngster on. Not the 'I haven't got room', or some other shite excuse, but genuine reaons ?

I do wonder At all this nonsense about dogs being passed around as their shite ....

ive known some dogs that were absolutely first rate owned by lads who aren’t “a dog is for life “ types

you could go so far in saying that the vast majority of lurchers end up with more than one home ...that’s just how the game is ...always has been always will be ....

look at buddy for example ...how many homes did he have ?
