depends on a number of things. I see a lot of lads jacking on there own dogs! because they listen to the glory that’s spoken over the internet so they get dogs out to young say from 5-8months an expect such a young inexperienced young dog that’s not mentally ready to be doing the same as a ready made seasoned dogs there for creating problems for there selfs and get disheartened if the dogs not doing what they hoped the out come would be by out matching the young un this time of year is by far the worst time for it as all the gear is clued up an fully fit after surviving the winter and coming in to peak breeding condition. You’ve not stated how old the dog is and in what way it appears to be quiting and what on?

See to many Young juckels that shouldn't even have started a season at six, nine months being sold ,as getting out the game or I'm looking for something bigger story.

Maybe if they let dog be a pup, enter it at right age, right way they will find the jacker would do most they ask.

Agreed mate. I feel amused when I see adds for sale for young bull bred dogs saying make someone a great rabbit dog when the dogs only 8months old in the add not doing what I got the dog for in other words the dogs spitting them out because I chuckled it on to young An it didn’t like taking a pasting because it wasn’t isn’t  mentally, physically ready for the job in hand

Trouble is,everyone thinks thier dog is "the one" and only "super dog"! In realality they all get injured, get knackered out, miss, run on,do a lap of the field, pull up,and not every dog catches 30 rabbits /10 foxes every outing.thats what you hear at the beer tent at the midland game fair.

Agree there mate. Sometimes you got to be happy with what you have got. Either that or be prepared to take some of the blame! Some dogs might not cut it but doing your homework on the litter, taking time to train and enter properly and you reduce the problem.

most pups that are made to jack, are made to do it by lads who are themselves in experienced, I wont ever do it, but I could easy of done it with my first bitch, she was pushed hard from a young age, and took ages to kill her first hare, but never looked like pulling up, and when she got one, it was one after another for the rest of her life, I honestly don't think you can jack a real good un.

paitence is the key.my dog didnt fully mature untill 3yr old.he just seemed very immature for a long time.but plenty of paitence has payed off i remember the day he done something quite subtle and i knew straight away he's finally grown up .he still acts like a 1yr old now and again.i think he just likes a bit of fun acting like a pup.

I don't know how many young big running dog  pups get shot by pig hunters here who wan't them to lug at 6 months and don't.Some of the best staghound, wolfhound type pig dogs I've seen don't start the biz till 2 1/2 and end up champs.Let the pups mature before writing them off.
