Foxhound x greyhound

Recommended Posts

Has anyone ever run this cross it’s something that’s been in my head for a few years now. I think the foxhound could bring a lot to the table. Stamina. Make a good day time rough hunting dog hopefully be handy markers. It’s something I’ve on my head to do in the next year or two. Try get a decent grey bitch that’s not afraid of teeth and put a good solid old English dog over her that’s a very good marking hound

That dog isn’t but here is a picture of the litter sister to my current lurchers grandsire, an F1 fellhound x greyhound from about 20 years ago.

know of 5 bred this way, never make a sound

After a bit of searching I’ve found a coursing greyhound 85 pound weight  to line the bitch. I struck lucky with the second person I asked. A shooting man I head down to a couple of times a season to

Friend of mine has bull grey x foxhound grey

Hell of a dog runs all day and night it's a big built dog but can shift through the gears quick

It’s just like in my head that a first cross could make a great all round dog. Just to get the right greyhound and right foxhound. I was also thinking about getting a foxhound bitch and putting a racy bull greyhound over her but I think it would take from the speed a bit

First time I saw the dog run full speed I was shocked how quick it was it is around 25/26 tts and it flew

A foxhound in full flight aren’t a slow dog to be fair so it wouldn’t surprise me it the cross was quick

to me there are a hell of alot of better crosses for what you just described but id love to be proven wrong

It’s just something that’s in my head for a few years now. I just think they could make a real handy all round cross I could be completely wrong. But after spending a few years in hunt service it’s got me thinking how good some foxhounds are and what they could bring to the table. On paper it adds up to exactly what I want in a dog but 2+2 don’t always make four.

That’s my taughts I could get a bitch and try her and if it works out I’d have no problem getting a very good foxhound

Straight to hand the fella you thinking of. His dog's 3/4 grey 1/4 foxhound. There's a few posts about him on here. Cracking animal, and very useful apparently. Certainly looks a fast dog
