Well its been some time since i bored the pants off you lot

with  a refurb thread

Phil (philpot) got given an old Diana 16 junior rifle off an old friend of his

so phil wanted it refurbished for his grand son to use in the back garden

and bring a new lad into our sport

nothing like whacking tin cans in a back garden to give you a buzz

any way i told him to send it up ,

It came a few days ago and by the end of the day i had the action stripped back and the stock as well

it needs a new piston seal ,,,spring,,,and breach seal,,,,

as you will see in the pics ,

Now the stock dose not have a lot of grain in it but dose have some gold fleck

and iv left a lot of old darkness in the stock that has been left there over years of use

and i think it makes the stock i could of removed it but after i did the Diana 52 that Si sent to me and then he donated to davyt63

to be raffled off for our lads over seas

and i did the same to that ,,,,and Simon.s (pianoman) hw80 and hw77

i thought id do the same with this one as well i mean after all these old rifles have a bit of character after all the years of use

so why remove it .

Put the first coat of stain on yesterday followed by another two not long after that then the fourth just a few mins ago

thats the last just needs to dry then ill give it a light rub over with 0000 wire wool then get the first coat of oil on it

still a bit to do but it will be right for the young lad

When they were originally made these were painted from new

but i dont know if i should paint or try and blue it

should i keep it original or not

what to do what to do:hmm:

if i paint it will hide some of the deep pitting that the action has in it

if i blue you will see it .

On restoration I would try and stick pretty original, so paint!

Memories come back, they were rubbish (didn't think so at the time) but we had so much fun, even hit things sometimes!

I have to say Jimmy that whilst bluing is the best method, we are talking about a cheap junior rifle when new so I am not too concerned which course of action you take my friend.

I am doing a search for the Hoppes Gun Blue Kit we talked about yesterday and will ask two shops I know sell Hoppes products if they either sell it or can get it.  That said, black paint will keep it original or leaving it bright as it is now could look good with the darker stock. Once I have done a bit of research on the bluing kit, I will let you know, in fact I am clay shooting shortly and two RFDs will be there so we can start the ball rolling.

Jimmy you are a star mate.

Get it etch primed and paint it satin black, then knock the paint back with some 0000 wire wool in 1 direction & it will look like blueing

I have been thinking about this today and totally agree Sean, I think that is by far the best way to go. It is also in keeping with the original finish.
