DOG ACTING DRUNK

Recommended Posts

after my collie/whippet had a long chase today he came back i gave him a bit of fuss,

as we then started to walk on he was acting like he was drunk?

falling to the side and  stumbling.. sat down with him

while he cooled down and gave him a drink.

after about 10 mins he was ok!!!!

what could have caused this?

thanks

A good sloppy meal when you get him home always works.  I keep dioralyte or vytrate sachets to add to a bit of luke warm stock water to replace electrolytes lost and I have found is great for not tying up the dog's muscles the next day.  Those sachets are becoming more and more necessary these days as even winter days can creep to 14C and all it takes is 2 hares in a row or a hard days ferreting on a day which becomes unusually warm to put stress on the dogs.

I used to think having those sachets was a bit over the top but all the hard work and countless miles spent training the dogs in the off-season can be lost through a hard day with a dog keeling over.  A simple sachet in stock water fixes everything.  Prevention is much cheaper than remediation i.e. 20p a sachet to £200 vet bill.
