Smith and Wesson 15-22

Hi guys I’m new to this site and was wondering if I could get some opinions on the ar15 style .22lr like the Smith and Wesson 15-22, dose anyone have one , where the best deals are at or are they just a waste of money and will last all of 5mins .

this is just for a bit of fun I know they are not as reliable or as accurate as say a Ruger 10-22 , any thoughts or opinions would be greatly appreciated

Never fired one  but handled one in a local gun dealers. If anyone is old enough to rememember the old Tv cop show Hill Street blues;well I felt like the mad SWAT team leader who popped up every few episodes.

I think if you were looking for something to hunt with, pulling one out of the gunslip would raise a few worried eyebrows from the farmer and get you reported to a real SWAT squad if a passing dog-walker spotted you in the bushes.

    The local gun-dealer actually specialised in their import and customisation though I think it was getting near impossible to source them at the time I was talking to him.

          They have loads of custom add-ons available and  seem to have almost cult status for the tactical -target disciples  but too scary by far to be seen in a field with one in my opinion.

I think the one I saw was around 700 quid and that would buy you a couple of good second-hand  reliable CZs or a very fancy more conventional new .22 rimfire indeed!

In fact I  remember seeing an aftermarket kit that transforms a CZinto and AR15 lookalike. Still too scary-looking for me but proven reliability.

Saw them at the shooting show back in the Stoneleigh days as Comanche says an open invite to the ARU to come on down .Yes theyre functional but we aint mericans and your average uk citizen is going see 1 and fill their panties im afraid .If you want semi in .22l/r then Ruger 1022 ,all the extras u can buy already made ,tested and in circulation .

As a proven piece of kit they work but as a everyday go to imho thats a no im afraid .You want to suss prices guntrader is a good place to start but if i turned up with one i would lose my perm in a blink .

They feel like a toy gun full of plastic. Your better trying to get your hands on a H&K 416 or MP5 ( not GSG MP5 garbage). They are hard to come by though. 

Just sold my MP5 as I don’t shoot on the ranges anymore but it was a cracking piece of kit. 

There is also the M4 ops that is alloy as well and not plastic, plenty of rails so easy to customise.

Don’t encourage him, you wrong un, he’d be better off buying a nurf gun, more accurate

I use to see a lad with one and it was not very reliable or accurate from what I saw of it. I wasn't very impressed to be honest but that is just my near valueless opinion.

I not sure if they are based on one of their pistol which was good but I could be way off.

The Browning buckmark pistol and carbine is worth a look. Less military looking and very reliable with pistol controls. Been tempted often, I use to cut string at 25 yds with one and my Mrs shot a brick of 22@100m one day with zero hang ups, and she was hitting the tins!

nothing wrong with them,my old club had one and i had to zero the rifle.1" group at 20 yards rapid fire with open sights.would operate fine with no jams fo me just did feel a little cheap but it is at the lower end of the market.bought a tippman myself which is a lot of fun as they all are.just remember to clean the thing very well every couple of outings as ther do get very dirty.use mine for mini gun comps so never really shoot past 20y with blazer ammo

Never tried the Blazer, I tended to use CCI Mini mags, quite a clean round. After 500+ through the barrel everything use to get a clean. 

If I still shot at the range I would still take the H&K rifles over anything else, but like I mentioned before they are really hard to get hold of due to them not being made anymore. I believe Walther, Umerex had a spat with H&K over some copyright issues. Have a look on Guntrader might be some on there but you will still be paying £800 for a 2nd hand rifle, still worth it because of the build quality.
