We all know that can only be accomplished by beddy whippet x's

That old dog of mine Trevor had the heart of a lion, never gave up on anything... even if the fecking lamp was switched off and I'd thought he'd lost the game. Many times you'd hear the squeal in the dark after a few crash bangs and he'd come trotting back with whatever he had caught, proud as punch  That was one dedicated dog ;)

This cnut of a dog I have now, I've seen him tear across mountains trying to get to the deer, Ibex, Sheep, Goats etc  He will charge down a near vertical scree slope regardless of his feet, all you see is a great big fecking herd stampeding up the other side of a valley with this white streak of piss trying to make the ground up lol

Have to admit, I've not given him the chance he deserves to shine but that's down to me not the dog ;)

Long as he wags his tail on a walk down the street and acts nice when you meet a nice bird then he's still doing a job breaking the ice. Ya can't shag an Ibex. Then again ?

A good dog is the dog an owner is happy with

Good answer... if your happy then who f***ing cares? All your so called masterpieces were 99% made masterpieces through the internet!!! Like as been said one mans gem is worthless to the next man but vise versa... dogs for jobs as they say!!!! Coursing dog that go do 3/3 4/4 week in week out be no good to the lamper on small fields doing good bags of different things... horses for courses... ?

For me I like dogs that puts food on the table ,but iam lucky I live in Scotland ?

But I know guys that ain't possible and put foxes on table,,and quite right they kill lambs ect and need to be controlled a BULLET CAN'T fly round corners and can't shoot round edge o a wood,, but a good dog can ,when light is shined and fox takes of like a rocket ,, then rifle is f****d lol ? unless you pay thousands on night vision equipment don't even get me started on that shit, they ain't hunters

Depending on area  you live and what you hunt,,,each to there own ?

I think the answer to this question is in the eyes of the beholder we all some what put our dogs in high places even when some people will say nots my type of dog or that's not for me etc but you've gotta think in the big picture is this dog getting me out the house on a windy night is it not catching me a couple of bunnies for the table is the dog making my heart race when I see it working or in hot pursuit it's all down to what the owners happy with cause that's the only person that the k9 has to please

I think we could all tell a shit dog if we seen one. but with the many differences in land to work dogs and a choice of day or night work or even dogs that do a mixture of the two regular Can anyone enlighten me on what the differences between a dog  average at best is as they say and those that are real good dogs. I wouldn’t have thought the two would be a million miles apart work wise.  So what is it in a dog that in your mind makes a dog from at average at best to a very good dog.

Mine and yours lol mine being the average on there best night

For me I like to turn up on a field like an Apache gunship. I flick into scan mode using the red beam to highlight any potential targets. One detected 80yard! I prime my four legged missile which also scans the field with built in night vision and state of the art air scent detection system. Target acquired “Fox one” missile is released and like a f****n tomahawk she navigates the contours of the field with an ongoing risk assessment for any dangers in its path. The target knows it’s under fire and a “dog fight” is under way. Twists and turns, speed vs speed, intelligence vs intelligence. We have all seen Topgun right?... The missiles seek and destroy capability outweighs the run and hide capability of the bunny and in a matter of seconds the bunny is done! The dog returns to the gunship for round two. One slip. One kill.
