Sighthound crossed with spaniel or pointer

Recommended Posts

My mate had a springer spaniel x whippet which recently died age 10,for a first cross I couldn’t believe how much it had thrown to the whippet ,only give away was the ears which were smooth but large .it was very keen at hunting anything,it was too much for my mate who’s not that mobile has he’s getting on in years. Could have been a very good dog in the right hands.

Thank you all I am looking into lurchers and will hopefully be able to start hunting once I find some land and get my dogs trained a little better. The dogs I have now are a golden retriever, Labrador retriever and a Brittany. So I guess another question I have is would a Brittany Sighthound cross be any good?

Honestly mate you will only end up breeding second rate lurchers that you will struggle to rehime an then you’ll only have the worry about where they are an what happens to em. Sack that. Where are you that is so hard to find a lurcher? Cos believe me even driving 6 hours each way for a pup an paying a few hundred quid will be a hundred times less stressful an easier than breeding a litter??

I live in the states so lurchers are a little bit harder to find at least they have been for me

I would say don't use brittany but if you're used to the brittany as a breed then maybe it'd be ok for you.  Mine was a completely deranged animal but then that could be from lack of socialisation before 16 weeks or whatever she was when I got her. She was wired to the moon.

That’s a beautiful dog! I will probably do as you guys and others say and buy a pup before I ever do any breeding I just need to keep looking until I find a pup. And I think my Brittany is a little different he is actually super clam until his outside then he tends to be more of a handful but that’s because he wants to run and hunt not walk on a leash.

What was she a cross with? And did she hunt well or was she just to crazy?

Brittany x whippet greyhound

She was ok out in the field but impossible to live with, I gave her to a lad at work as she drove me mad.
