A real loss to the sport personally never thought much of him but respected him as an angler. One the best rods I ever owned was a John Wilson Avon Quiver.

Wilson did well not to have been chucked in round here when he told a kid who asked for his autograph to f*ck off, a horrid man who had to just chuck his gear in a motor and do one as the kids father was well just how'd we'll all be if our kids were swore at..

Respect what he did to promote fishing, pioneer with putting it on tv, but he did come across a bit obnoxious and full of himself, the scene where the rod snaps when his in a boat, south Africa i think, lands a catfish eventually, talks to the other fella like shit!
