What’s a hardblood?

The term Hard Blood whippet was an original phrase that I first coined when working on a planned, but sadly unfinished treatise, with the late Ted Walsh, the author of the embryonic manual,...Lurchers and Longdogs. Ted (an authority on the KC registered coursing whippet)was puzzled by the nomenclature and I had to assure him that these specialists, purpose bred, non-pedigree racing dogs definitely once included the blood of the Black Country Staffordshire Bull Terriers,.hence my choice of words,...Hard Blood...?

Non ped grews are the best working dogs i ever had standing around 22 23ins ths 32lb perfect weight, the best 30 yarders they were called because nothing was as fast over the first 30yds and when ferreting how many runs do you get beyond that. I have a lot of respect for them, most guys dont need a bigger dog, all down to what quarry you run. But for me those little dogs have given me some great days and nights out ATB KIC.

spot on  mate , i had little none ped racing bitch whippet    20in 20lb  , picked rabbits up easy day/night  , and in the day could put few bends into a big rabbit. down the track  west mids cannock   , they were some males 23in  33-34 lb  very full on dogs pile in foxes etc, great at rabbiting , as phil said on here , you deff could  see  bit of staff in them, if i wanted a whippet , it would be a none ped racing one .
