The original dogs weren't all black and tan either, even used to throw merle. Showing farm/cattle dog origin. But that got swept under the carpet and modern breeders prefer to think or rather promote the idea that they're a mastiff type dating back to ancient Rome

In my opinion most weight pull pits have bull mastiff in the mix.eddington watchdog razors edge.the dog posted above weighed 110 lbs.

Never heard that theory.I always thought everone knew their origin was Germany.

We had a first cross rottie German shepherd she looked and sounded scary as fook but she was soft as a brush but no one come in our yard

I think it has been done in America.I think most people prefer the Neo as the choice of mastiff in the uk and Europe because out of the traditional mastiff breeds they seem to have maintained the strongest guarding instincts despite what the show breeders have done to them physically.Ive seen a few pure show bred Neos that were completely relaxed but once something got them riled up were absolutely ferocious.

Our pet shop in the early 90s use to have a massive Rottweiler and a massive German shepherd don't see them like this anymore none of that German working type just proper dogs

A bloke I knew trained and worked security dogs and he said the most dangerous dog he ever saw was a neo bitch owned by someone in a terraced house with no front yard that had egged it on every time someone walked past and it had flipped.

My old straight cross Bullmastiff/pit at 17.The healthiest dog I've ever owned and was a great guard to the end.He was crafty and caught foxes and roos on occasion.he matured at only about 32kg but was very driven.His Bullmastiff dad lived to nearly 15 with no health issues.A fckwit up the road put his 4 pigdogs on him when my daughter was walking him and one of the dogs had to be put down due to injuries.Old bubba was hurt but didn't need a vet.

Just read  about the cane corso   now they slimmer type than a neo. But very good guards, and from what is said far more healthy than a pure neo. Surely these would make great Bandog when out x to apbt, do they use this x , David hancock who wrote about mastiffs said, the cane corso was very good breed and hopes they don't get ruined by the KC,  but as yet there not over popular

Lad down bottom of the hill from me had one until his Mrs fcuked off & had to sell the house. It was outside all day with a kangol, no shelter, rain or shine on a corner garden behind a fence made from sheets of reinforcing mesh! Just bouncing off the fence all day at passerby’s!

He told me he didn’t trust it with visitors.............yeah no shit!

I heard that, taken from nomads used in the Colosseum and as LSGD by Roman's. Don't see why they would tho when they had molosser of there own? More bs made up to sell pups, my bloodlines direct ancestor's killed Christians and fault lion's for fun so top guards! haha

Unfortunately there popularity is rising there's 3 around here in the stick's. One owned by a wreck head who's got a pit x cross as well, accident waiting to happen IMO!
