Recommended Posts

Help me out please, friend of mine is looking for 12g or 20g Sub Sonic Non Toxic Cartridges.

Does anyone know of a make/type please?

Plan B, does/can anyone reload such a thing?

Cheers

There are some suggested loads here - I am unable to verify if these are safe etc, so at your own risk:

Seems to be some question over effectiveness of steel at sub sonic. I'm guessing you could substitute bismuth, but then you'd probably have to start developing loads from scratch.

This is an odd question. .... A friend of mine. ?? In these internet days why isn't  this person going online or walking into a gun shop and asking the question ?  This sounds like somone is up to no good .

As for reloading    Anything can be done if you have a mind to do it but no one ehould be reloading for someone else because, A. You do nt know how the cartridges were loaded, whats in them and whether they are safe to use. And B. Because the loading of ammunition for yourself is one thing but if you start reloading and selling ammunition to a third party you effectively become an ammunition manufacturer and as such come under a whole new situation of rules and regulations which anyone ignores at their peril.

The question kind of smacks of someone is up to no good because asking this for A FRIEND.. and the fact that subsonic non toxic ammo ain't suitable  for the task in hand. It's like asking for a FRIEND if anyone loads low power silent ammunition to shoot a bull elephant down the road !!!

It was a simple question that didn't need a lecture, how do you know its NOT suitable when you don't have a clue what he wants to do with it!

if it upsets you that much let me tell you he does specialist work on water, primarily with waterfowl, at close range and commonly in built up sensitive areas, he has looked high and low for ammo and been told his best bet is to see if someone can load for him, he asked if I could help with any info/advice.

If you seriously think I would risk my position with something dodgy you are nuts!

Of course he / she does. Especially in built up sensitive areas.  What secret service government agency does he supply this service for?

he has looked high and low for ammo .   There's probably a reason for the non availability of sub sonic ammo.

Yeah, because very few people have a need for it!

What is your problem, I'm not in the business of making up tales or breaking the law, or justifying myself to you or anyone else!

If you have nothing constructive to add you are welcome to go away!

i realise thats not what your looking for , bbut i just did a quick search regarding  sub sonic shotgun cartridges    sure there will be more ?

Yeah, we can find a decent selection of sub sonic, and a decent selection of non-toxic, but there seems to be a distinct lack of a cartridge with both.

My inclination as stated above would be to explore loading some Bismuth in sub sonic. All the indications are, steel don't perform well at low speeds, probably due to lack of mass.

Wonder if it would be safe to buy some sub sonic lead rounds, open the crimp, pour the shot out, weigh them, then substitute a slightly lesser weight in Bismuth.....Don't reload, so can't answer that myself, but I'd have thought with slightly less shot weight, the pressure would be a little lower than standard. Could be a cheaper way to get custom loaded subs. However, wouldn't like to say for definite without knowing the safety implications. Got to be careful with homeloads. Over to the reloading experts for the safety aspects / implications... .
