How many of us have had “Billy liar “ moments, where we imagine gunning down over zealous officials, tax men , planning officers or the like . But that is all they ever are imaginings. Albert Dryden actually did it , and he warned them as well . The quiet man who just wanted to be left alone was pushed too far . Sad for everyone involved. There was no winners that day .

Sad a bloke lost his life but he was hounded

Still remember it early 90s Derwent up near Stanley way.

Fooking stupid cnuts with clip boards diggers and cameras stood 5 feet away while he was in a agitated state and holding a pistol.

back of Consett Max. he was known as an eccentric in Consett. used to drive around in a cadillac.

that councilor was a notorious c@nt around here.

It does not seem like all those years ago mind.It didnt need to happen and should not of happened. Just looked case up again.Albert pointed out to the Councilor and the council solicitor on the day that they arrived to bulldoze the bungalow that there was a letter fastened on his gate that stated an Inspector would come in 5 weeks time and make a decision then. The Councilor ignored him and said “ the letter does not challenge the demolition order” Albert warned him saying “ you might not be around to see the outcome of this disaster, you have been warned. If you had any sense you would go away and wait 5 weeks. You are making a sad decision” When Dryden pulled out the handgun the Councilor said to a cameraman “ Can we get a shot of this gun ?” They seriously under estimated the actions of a quiet man taken to breaking point .

I  agree as soon as he threatened him they should have got well out of the way and left it to the police for him to either give it up or put a bullet in him
