Wife's from East Sussex and used to do it in one sitting! I don't go mainlanding very much, but when I do I make it count, normally ferry out and then cheap flights, see kids and grandkids ?

Thanks for the write up Gav . What a beautiful spot to do a bit of rabbiting .  I don’t suppose you have mixy orVHD up there ? Any foxes? I’ve read about the trout fishing on the isles “machair lochs”. Ah , one day I am going to make my way up there and see it all for myself .

How do you go on for ammo and such?

Guess you have to make your own black powder!

There a few RFD here and you can bring ammo etc on the ferry but not powder, we make that from tourist bones an anybody else's we can lure to this part! Did you never see wicker man? ?

Last outbreak of mixy was in the 70s, no foxes too and since they had a mink clear out the rabbit are a major problem to the machair. The only predators really are eagles and hawks. The trout/salmon fishing is good here yes, and 90% free if you know where to go too, some great isolated spots out the Moor, I can get lost happily out there for a few days, need to be careful though an know what hazards to look for, sink holes etc it's mainly peat bog or you'll be out there for good ?

The fishing sounds fantastic, I think I’d miss Charlie though , in spite of all the chaos he causes. You live in a truly beautiful place , very different from the Cotswolds I live in . You can start to take it for granted when you live and work in such places . But every now and then on a misty morning or a sunset nature reminds you just how lucky you are . ATB

Your quite fortune as well my friend living down there , that's a picturesque part of the county , I've been that way a few times ,

anywhere is better than the concrete jungle I live in , lol

im jealous of you and gav , ??

Atb lads

The Cotswolds are indeed beautiful, and I love living and working here . I have lived here most of my life . But the British isles are so varied, the Yorkshire dales , the Lakes , Brecon , Cornwall, the Cambridgeshire fens , Mayo in Ireland , the highlands of Scotland. These are the places I’ve been to in this country and have either fished , shot or dug . All have their own unique beauty. I think however the western isles , with its treeless machair grasslands and exposed beaches , small population takes some beating . I’ve always loved being in truly wild places , where I am everywhere is cultivated and under mans control. Up there it’s still a bit wild and dangerous. I used to go wildfowling on the Severn estuary and that was hairy when the “bore” tide came in . I used to hang on till the last minute before getting off the mud flats . Sometimes you feel the most alive when you push your luck ?

      Hello all.?
Just an update as it has been a while.I have been looking for a subsonic .22LR hollow point that shoots well from a cold clean bore and have recently started using RWS subs which do well, typically from the first shot..I have used a few different brands of subsonic H.P.s and they all group quite well after 5 or so fouling shots, but RWS like the cold clean bore, needless to say I am a happy and for me, decent shooting.?.I have used the RWS before in the old Annie 1416 DG and it was equally consistent in that rifle.
A couple of typical below all from a cold clean bore..My scope is a Hawke Vantage x2 -x7 32mm A.O. with illuminated reticle which is a great field scope but lacks magnification for target shooting so is sometimes difficult to deduce if a shot has been pulled, but I love the scope.
      Have a good weekend all.?

Hi all, just an update.I have had this rifle for over a year now and still really like it a lot. I have not modified it in any way and it is as out of the box.
It is an easy rifle to shoot well with a pretty good trigger (pulling at 2.6 lbs out of the box and very smooth), accurate, lightweight and utterly reliable.
I now have the benefit of hindsight and  purchasing this rifle was a good decision and I would do so again absolutely.
I use an inexpensive but very good Hawke Vantage x2-x7 32mm A.O. scope with an illuminated reticle. I sometimes use a SAK moderator on the gun, a very good mod.
      Have a good weekend.?.
