FAC help local to me ? Rotherham. South Yorkshire.

Hello, Chaps.

I have been told by the landowners and keepers where I do most of my Pest Control etc. I need to get my FAC to go forward into the future.

I have permissions to shoot on various land, But I'm a traditionalist and prefer to work the ferrets and dogs etc. ( I remove thousands per year ). I do pest control for a living and I am fully insured, qualified etc in all these departments. I recently went on a job to shoot some rabbits with a gentleman I know and he used his 17 HMR, I will never use a Rapid 7 again.lol.

The time has now come for me to take the next step and get my FAC. I intend to go for a 22 Rimmy and 1st of all a 17 HMR.

This is the bit I'm sort of stuck on etc.... I do not want to join some local gun club and spend all my time shooting at targets on a range with posh people talking about facts and figures. I fully understand the need for knowledge and competency, safety etc. But I have no time for new friends and social circles in my life at the moment.

IS there anyone local to me who would be kind enough to offer me some guidance and mentorship through the process of getting all my paperwork and equipment sorted etc. In return, I will make it worth your while either financially or with some sport on my land with me etc. I'm in Rotherham S.yorks. I have access to land local, but my main bulks of permissions are on the Yorkshire Dales.

 Kindest of regards

 Vin.

Don't you no any of the lads that shoot on wentwerth ?

No ( i know a few ferreters )... I don't normally associate with shooting types... I'm a ferreter. . . I have no interest in spaniels and gundogs and very little interest in guns up until now.

I'm probably a lost cause to you chaps. I was just hoping for someone local to me with the knowledge to help me out.

You don't  need any mentoring or any of that you have to join a club rubbish.  The feos make it up as they go along. If you've got reason,  somewhere to use it and you ain't been a naughty boy , then they can't refuse it. Just say ,and be insistent that you don't intend joining a club. If the foe says that you won't be given a cert get in touch with the firearms dept and say that you are applying for sporting use to clear rabbits and thats it. Even if they put conditions like they want someone with you ( mentor ) dont agree. That mentor carp was stopped by the working group. And the chief constables have been advised ( told) that it isnt to be used.  If you are insistent they will issue what you want because they can't refuse unles there are really serious safety or security issues. been through aĺl  this with son in law.dont be frightened off. Don't be rude of start getting threatening or abusive. Just be insistent.

Ps. Don't put down 22lr  and 17 her. Just go for the 22lr. they wont refuse that. It's more than capable for rabbits and you won't end up with road kill  meat.

Like I've said. No, I don't know anyone on there.

We keep completely different circles ... Or I do anyway.

Thanks for the pointer though and I will ask around local.

That's what I needed to know basically... last time I asked it was like I had to jump through hoops to join a club and spend half my life getting a shotgun cert 1st then the FAC. It all seemed like too much trouble. I spend most of my time ferreting in the winter season... But I would never join a ferreting club either. I would also like to know what I need to set up for emergency dispatch etc.

My fac was issued on his local county estate, but no point introducing him if he don't associate with shooting types ?

Funny how you're reading more into my words than intended. . . But hey ho that's probably why I don't associate with SHOOTING TYPES.

Thanks all for your advice and the odd PM of kind words chaps.

I'll get my coat and get out now before I put my foot right in it.

      Hello all.?
Just an update as it has been a while.I have been looking for a subsonic .22LR hollow point that shoots well from a cold clean bore and have recently started using RWS subs which do well, typically from the first shot..I have used a few different brands of subsonic H.P.s and they all group quite well after 5 or so fouling shots, but RWS like the cold clean bore, needless to say I am a happy and for me, decent shooting.?.I have used the RWS before in the old Annie 1416 DG and it was equally consistent in that rifle.
A couple of typical below all from a cold clean bore..My scope is a Hawke Vantage x2 -x7 32mm A.O. with illuminated reticle which is a great field scope but lacks magnification for target shooting so is sometimes difficult to deduce if a shot has been pulled, but I love the scope.
      Have a good weekend all.?

Hi all, just an update.I have had this rifle for over a year now and still really like it a lot. I have not modified it in any way and it is as out of the box.
It is an easy rifle to shoot well with a pretty good trigger (pulling at 2.6 lbs out of the box and very smooth), accurate, lightweight and utterly reliable.
I now have the benefit of hindsight and  purchasing this rifle was a good decision and I would do so again absolutely.
I use an inexpensive but very good Hawke Vantage x2-x7 32mm A.O. scope with an illuminated reticle. I sometimes use a SAK moderator on the gun, a very good mod.
      Have a good weekend.?.
