I was talking on your own steam..not with a mate etc... no nets. not picked up from easy picking where terriers and spaniels catch em.

I meant to say. . . . Bolted to the dogs with no nets etc, on bankings and hillsides with steep inclines and tricky running spots on the unforgiving terrain of the Dales etc.   None of that easy shit.

Anyone can score a good bag on the easy flat open fields up there, once the dogs get tuned in.. . . But the big steep bankings and scree slopes are tough going.

I don't keep rabbiting dogs, but a dog of any kind will get tuned in any where it is worked regular if its any good.

ive never ferreted such steep hill's like that much NL.do you try and position the dog below the burry waiting for the bolt at all. as chasing down hill a quick double back would make the dog over shoot by a fair bit.i enjoy trying to work out which direction the rabbit would take as im walking towards a new burry.

and if there aint any close by burrys or cover or big dip's in the land.which way does the majority of bolters go.up or down.

Too right,..going up,  is the best way...

Mind you,..up or down, we still often miss more than we catch.?

These misses are what keep us going back for more.... or it would be boring and predictable.  Last season I worked solo most of the time and on the steepest hardest banks where they don't come easy. I only get a month of the easy stuff when the shooting season finishes. But to be honest I prefer the challenge of the hard to catch stuff these days.... I have one little spot that is completely covered in large boulders and rocks..the bunnies are in there. but they are almost impossible to catch.. its the sort of spot that destroys dogs in 1 run. I spent a fair few hours there last season.

Some lovely ground in the Highlands, can't wait to take my lad, if you got the spots then you can catch more in a week than you would see in 10yrs lol?20151003_085854.thumb.jpg.4e681f60094ad403b946a5e51b096dd4.jpg
