Nah mate, you're right, they'd not thought of that...

Oops typical baggage handlers appear to have lost all the satelights ??

Not sure where the Sutherland spaceport is at with 'proper' rocket launches but tonight the UK launches it's first satellites from Cornwall in a slightly unconventional way... UK

How much public money has that little lot cost us

I think the government investment is in the tens of millions. :hmm:

The UK space industry is worth about £15B to the economy and is a world leader in small satellites. The one thing the industry lacks is a launch capability which these projects with government funding aim to achieve. This will give the industry a true end to end offering to the market, with estimates that the industry will double in size by 2030.

Strategically, and not to be understated, it will give the UK sovereignty over access to space. Space is becoming critical to nations economies and war fighting ability, not being able to launch these types of satellites is a weakness.

This is really good stuff. We are a global leader in satellite development and having the in-house ability to launch too for a full service will have great potential. The only thing that worries me is if the about £25M is enough to really encourage the private sector investment needed to complete and commercialise. I have no feel for that.

This is good shit folks. Exactly the sort of shit we need for post Brexit.

there has been a rocket sight on benbecular for years     all be it a  military  sight

Cheers

So we're funding an industry worth 15 billion to the tune of 10s of millions, shame the 1s making the money wouldn't fund it themselves

They are, more so than government once the ball is rolling. But the nature of free markets is that private corporations are a bit more risk averse than governments. If governments want to take an industry in a new direction they often have to initiate it.
