.177 jsb play time

Well I’ve had a bit of a play with some jsb’s at 25 and 50 yards. The advertised weights of these were pretty much on, so I took calculations using these. The pellets were 8.44 grain exact, 10.34 grain exact heavy and 16.20 grain beast. I took readings at the muzzle, at 25 yards and at 50 yards. Unexpectedly to me, I found that the lighter 8.44 grain exacts actually retained energy at 25 yards, better than the heavier ones. Not so at 50 yards though. Here’s the results for the 8.44 grain exact : mv 778 (11.34ft lb) 25 yard v 672 (9.55ft lb) 50 yard v 581 (6.32ft lb). 10.34 grain exact heavy : mv714 (11.70ft lb) 25 v 628 (9.05ft lb) 50 yard v 558 (7.15ft lb). 16.20 grain beast mv 574 (11.85ft lb) 25 yard v 507 (9.24ft lb) 50 yard v 465 (7.77ft lb). It was a bit breezy so accuracy may have not been as good as in still air. The jsb beast wasn’t too bad at 25 yards, but somewhere between 25 and 50 yards they lost the plot. The shots for the 16.20 grain pellets are circled separately on the 50 yard target. All over the place.

Good on yer RFB, you are clearly starting to enjoy yourself with these pellet tests, must admit I really enjoy pellet testing.

I find the jsb heavy is an accurate pellet from 30yrds out to 40 ,,,50 ,,,yrds

the trouble i find is they seem to go right through the pray (rabbit) and they run off there dead they just dont know it

iv seen them run 100yrds before they drop.

then you get some that just keel over dead .

JSBexact are the best i find the pellet is not as hard as the heavys  so they tend to flatten out on impact

thats the pellet im using now in all my rifles

spring and pcp.

Dont get me wrong i will at one point go back to the heavys  as i think there a very good pellet also ,

Try these RB.

          VM put me onto them and I`ve used them ever since with all my .177 rifles bar my 100 KT.

Like Mark said I have been using JSB Express in my .177 guns , these pellets are very good at different ranges ,even at 60+ yards and seem to take the wind better than heavies because they are traveling at a faster speed . I have JSB heavies running @715 fps and JSB express running @ 805 fps .

I run most of my guns on lighter pellets ,HW100k.22 with Falcon Accuracy Plus / JSB RS (same pellet )13.3 gr running @ 625 fps .

This is a very good read and it is defiantly worth the read as well
