I often read threads concerning collie crosses with a degree of confusion . More to do with the sometimes negative comments that relate to the border collie , and often mention is made of the far supe

After many a wasted trip to see so called collie x greyhound litters I decided to go to Hancocks for a pup, she is entering her 6 season now, and is a credit to my team, she has supplied us with some

I think you are right there Roybo... I shall always keep my own home-bred, watered down Collie hybrids, they suit me for the ground I hunt over, but most lads coming into the game today seem to w

about 3 months now.

I'm not being funny with you, just offering advice fron experience.  3 months is no time at all. If you're intending to keep this dog all it's life you need to be prepared to take time to find the right pup.

Even people breeding their own stuff plan and research over months and sometimes years to bring the right dog and bitch together then may wait 6 months or more before the bitch comes on heat, another 2 months before she whelps etc. etc.

If you really want good stock, have patience. Collie crosses aren't so popular these days so the working lines aren't bred so often except at Hancocks and if you go there you take a chance. They feed very low quality food there and may try to sell you older and poorly socialised pups.

I’ve to disagree with the last comment I went there for a half bred pup, but on my way past a kennel a stunning red merle 3/4 bred bitch 16wks old caught my eye. I was very tempted to change my mind, Sally Hancock who was showing me round asked what type of ground I hunted, once I explained she said a half cross is what you want, not some speed machine, it would have been easy for her to say nothing and let me take the older dog but she didn’t, I’m more than happy with how she has turned out. Hi, I breed this smaller type of collie lurcher, just for hedgerow ferreting, general mouching, and a wee bit of picking up on the local Shoots.

My only quarry is the rabbit, so a dog that is a genuine seeker, marker and good at hunting up in the rough. is all I really need.

I still rate, a well made F1 Collie x Greyhound Hybrid, but these wee 'un's suit me fine.?

Although they come out, fairly level, my dogs are possibly what the purest lurcherman /breeder might politely term, scatterbred' ... ?

Basically,.they are a mixture of Whippet, Sheepdog and Greyhound blood...

They are no great shakes and created on purpose, to assist me,..in my localized rabbiting activities...?

Always wanted a collie x grey f1 or reverse 3/4 but timing never seems to work out right when there are litters about , So bred my own collie lurcher instead E0C85E61-F9F4-43CA-9C97-D983365FA221.thumb.jpeg.a4487d0a4e1cb1e17ec66b2aa0933a93.jpeg

Nice animal for sure, reminds me of dogs from round Nottingham in the eighties only difference being they were full colored animals, not merle patterned, atb pal

I think these types, grey/collie/whippet, have always been popular. Certainly were where I'm from in south wales, until saluki and bull blooded dogs started to become more popular, like you say especially from the late 80's

If I ever have another dog with collie in it won't be beardie and it will be diluted linebred type rather than a straight cross. Like Phil always says if it works you'e got a goodun but it can go terribly wrong with a first cross.

Mine 'was' a nightmare and now I'm living a stress free lurcherless life.

What a great part of the U.K. Went digging and lamping a few times with some lads from South Wales, had a few dogs off them as well, proper dog men with proper dogs, not seen em for a few years now but if I ever win euromillions I'll be straight down there to make them financially secure. atb pal

Got a dog 3 quarter bred off merlin.. Which the sire to merlin is Arthur.

Can't fault his speed and power. This season will be his season to be honest. But he's had a few bits and marks shit hot considering he only been ferreting once and didn't false mark all day as we had 100 percent terrier with us.

Best temperament iv had on a dog, placid and calm as a cucumber takes. Everything in his stride.

Listen to people on here and you will get a coiled up nervous lunatic that's half starved and poorly socialised... When I went to view pups I saw 5 or 6 litters none of them was skittish or nervy all approached me fine.

Eddie my dog was reserved when I went in the pen.. Other pups all over me and he was calm.. Best decision I made was picking him as usually I go for idiot of a pup lol makes a change.

He's 3 quarter bred but has plenty of bone and 26.5tts 70lb dog. Bring rabbits back alive too which is nice.

Know alot of lads with Hancock off all different sires taking all game mate. It's how u handle the dog, collie x not for everyone. But I will say the temp of my one is like a staff, a well behaved bull terrier.. Not dog aggressive muppet. Just easy to handle.. Loyal and quite a bomb proof temp.
