There are still working borders out there.

I work a black and tan dog he's a Parkes breed Lakey to a patterdale brilliant foxing dog and he will Bush all day here's Jim Juan Mata

My borders and lakelands have never failed me, stay till the jobs done. Also plenty other lads out there with genuine working lakeys.

i can still remember when terrier shows were a place like minded people got together for a bit of crack  sorted out studs, gifted or sold pups, even watched a chicken or two dance , the vast majority  of terriers were white , the rest were the newly named patterdales or border/lakey , these border /lakey terriers where not a cross but the working blood of northern england neither lakeland or border include the patterdale they on the whole were just the smooth haired ones, these strains were just the working animals the show boys hadn't yet f****d up with there rush for KC ribbons, the ugly little working lines left alone if you like

unfortunately 3 decades later other than the patterdale most of that blood is f****d by the use of KC blood both border and lakeland to the point we are at today if you want a worker go for white, black or choc   if you want a show pony go buy from the man winning shows with his pretty  little dogs

shame those broad headed borderish workers disappeared , i think Frank Buck advertised his Breay/Buck line as border/lakies in the exchange and mart , if anyone has a copy please post it :)

No offence Scar Face but to look at both your Border and Jossas , they're like two different breeds... Jossa that's a cracking border... although never overly popular I remember regularly seeing several of the like around us. They were reputably hard. JJ F was known to have a good strain back then...

Maybe there is a good reason that lads are using black dogs and not the other breeds.

The only reason for that is because there is no longer the terrier expertise about now,the vast majority of folk about now would not have the working knowledge to own a Border/Lakeland and find it far easier to enter a terrier that is nearly idiot proof, yet owned by a majority of idiots.Black terriers are the salvation of the majority now and thats a fecking poor reflection of the nous of terrier folk about now.

What is it about the black terrier as a working dog that reflects poorly on the average terrierman nowadays? So a border lakey requires more knowledge to enter? Back in the day lads were entering them at 8 month old carelessly and having success, just like some lads do with the ‘idiot’ proof blacks. It’s not knowledge that’s restricting the border lakey success, it’s access to good blood. If you have good blood, regardless of the breed, the odds are in your favour assuming you enter your dog properly.

What a load of shit. You dont enter a working terrier. If a terrier is bred right and got anything about it it will enter itself.

Those are the idiots you mentioned in your first post, I’m pointing out the fact that they were always there regardless of the breed. So what is it about the black terrier as a working animal that reflects bad on the terrierman nowadays?

Are you for real?any fecking terrier bred half right will enter, the fecking owner often recognises the fecking fact that only feckwits and nuggets enter pups to do an adult terriers graft. So if its bred right it will enter left?what a fecking twat you are.

So what special skill does it take to enter a decent terrier then clever c**t?And i did say well bred with anything about it.Every terrier ive had thats been any good its been a matter of socialise as a pup,get it out and about in the country as a pup then once its physically and mentally mature walk it to an earth with something in it.Maybe your response just proves that youve never had the experience of owning a well bred earth dog.
