That's a simplistic way of looking at it FD, I know where you're coming from but I don't agree. There's hundreds of terriers that get moved on or pts year on year through bad entering,  bad socialisat

A few years ago I was on holiday for a couple of days and one of the boys was looking after my terriers a certain very good bitch was in season at the time and I gave instructions to mind her as she was not being mated this time. A few weeks later I noticed her starting to grow in size and realised she was in pup. I asked the lad who looked after them that weekend did he f**k up he said no even though I know he did. I had 7 males on the yard and not a clue which one had done the deed and a certain young dog didn't make the grade. The breeding was spot on whichever dog it was but as I didn't know which dog I gave out the pups. Two of which I would give my right hand for as I've seen them work last few seasons and there top notch. I've been offered the service of the two brothers at stud but I just can't bring myself to use them as I don't know what dog the sire was. Could have been a young one who never made the grade. Makes you laugh doesn't it !!! Incidentally we lost the bitch in ground last season rip ruby.

Not sure on the accuracy of it but could you not have had the pups dna tested against your dogs dna?

You can get a dna for something like 30 quid. A mate of mine covered a bitch with a dog but he didn’t tie. That night a useless lurcher jumped into the run and killed the dog. So he didn’t want to take a chance so he used another dog he had. When the pups where born he got a dna done to see what dog was the father but praying the dog that got killed was. Typical the second dog was the father. There was nothing wrong with the second dog but he just wanted it to be the first

Not a bad situation to be in though surely? I'd rather be stuck with bitches than dogs!

You'd be happy with my situation so. Last four litters out of our line only one dog in each litter. All bitches!! Im praying for dogs at the moment

It's always been in the back of my mind to get a dna test but I had plenty of pups all related blood so didn't really need those ones and I just put them to the back of my mind. My dogs are all related so I wonder how accurate the dna test would be ? Would it pinpoint the exact dog? I took 3 litters from that bitch before she died to dog's of ours so have plenty similar blood anyway. I only really started to pay heed in the pups I gave away when I saw them working into their 3rd seasons. A dna test could be done yet !! Not a bad problem to have i suppose I'm delighted it threw a couple of workers

Surely easier to find a stud though, then blend back into your family of dogs? Than being stuck with a dog and having to line it with whatever bitch turns up?  I'd say the ball's firmly in your court!

Yeah its not to big a deal it would definitely be alot easier to find a related stud than dealing with a lack of decent bitches. But I suppose down the line it could be of concern if any of those dogs weren't worth breeding from or lost. I'm sure it will start to rectify itself hopefully sooner rather than later.

Well the mate that done the dna test. The two dogs had the same father and would have been the same family as the bitch

Am I reading this right, you believe a DNA test can tell you what line your dog is? Or do you mean what breed because the former is baloney I believe.

I don't think there talking about finding out what line a dog is from I think there well aware of there line and breed! It's about identifying what dog out of a certain family is the sire of a litter
