My grandfather born 1903 died when i was 16 but still the funniest man i have ever had the pleasure of being in the company of.

The grandparents around the turn of the 20th century, I have a receipt somewhere from about 1919 where my grandad give the army £500 for a load of scrap which in them days was a massive amount of money.

i think a pound in 1919 is about £200 today he must have been quite a wealthy man,i wonder what the scrap consisted of

It didn’t say mate, it just says “sold to Mr XXX, quantity of scrap metal and parts for £500”

I know one thing, if he had a few quid.....he never left my old man or me any ! Lol

Well Im bxggered i've never even been to have a look , and only a few miles away yea its the house okay. nice to know its till there, thanks mate. That photo is almost the same angle as well, wish I could have put the whole photo up as its about a third bigger had to crop it.

My other grandad a decent sportsman in his day. Boxed for the navy . Competed for Lancashire100m/200m and a decent amateur footballer and coached local teams.

Was clearing out my nanas house and found this stashed away in s cupboard .....

it was signed on the back “ from the worlds greatest footballer” 

a family mystery for years ,

cam anyone shed any light on his identity?
