bedding

I have been throwing out tones of paper recently, and was thinking about just buying a shredder and using it for the ferret bedding. Does anyone else use shredded paper for bedding? would save me a few quid in the long run buying bedding I suppose.

I wouldn’t bother in the summer time mine just have a deep bed of shavings

I only just used shredded paper for the first time this year for when my Jill’s has had kits. I made sure it was the short cut shred as the longer stuff can apparently tangle them up easily

neil b, I have hay in their sleeping box, but when its too warm they just sleep on the shavings in the tier below anyway.

Mine have shredded paper, with no problems. It costs nothing but can be a bit messy

Mine only get shavings but i cut the front off a plastic box and they sleep in that but if its warm they sleep at the side or behind  it

I too used the shredded paper for a while, but I found in winter it got damp after a bit. I switched to straw then and found it held out longer before being replaced. I wouldn't go with hay ,too dusty,smelly and mites.this time of year in my own run is shavings only.
