Collie/whippet

Recommended Posts

Hi all. After a 3/4 whippet 1/4 collie pup. Thought I had found one but the mating didn't take. I'm after a smallish intelligent dog for pest control duties. It's a specific mix I know and rare for some reason but if there are any litters out there from good parents please get in touch.

Cheers

Do yourself a favour and choose a beddy instead of a collie ??

I looked for a 3/4 whippet 1/4 collie pup stormyboy, this was about 6 years ago, and like you say they are thin on the ground, i ended up with a 3/4 whippet 1/4 beddy [with a nats of GH blood] she,s turned out just fine, 22tts, she,s work mad and reasonably intelligent, works to hand signals, great recall, infact the best recall of any dog i,v ever had, some males can be abit head strong iam told but this bitch is a pleasure to own, worth considering if you cant get a collie cross. atb, Buster.

As you know.

Its all in the breeding,...and with this type,..some might end up as near whippets and some as old Shep,..the ideal mix would seem to be, something in the middle.

Personally, I favor the cur -like types, but, I am easily pleased...

Absolutely Phil.  It's finding the fecker that's the problem.   Thats the reasoning behind my search for 3/4 whippet-it will be fast enough but retain a little sagacity with a dash of cur. I may still go with a whippet yet or maybe a dash of terrier if not. I've trained sight hounds to a decent obedience level in the past, so why not. Shame about the recent litter on the other site, crackers. hey ho if you aint in, you aint in ...

I have 3/4 whippet 1/4 collie, my first dog, he was the runt, got him soon after my son was born so i gave him absolutely no training atall before putting him out on the lamp at 7 or 8 months old. as I said my first dog and I did it all wrong but despite that he has now grown up to be a great dog in alot of ways, I broke him to livestock and ferrets at 3 years old with complete ease, he is a keen ratter , he is great at ferreting in harsh cover as he doesn't mind brambles or nettles atall and goes straight in and is good in the nets too, I would say his nose is fair but not great yet he marks well, cathes fairly well on the lamp and walks to heal off the lead very well. all in all he is a very easy dog to work with, he doesn't retrieve but he received no training really so maybe he would have maybe he woulnt, my next dog I would like to have a bit of gh in to have a bit more oomph over open ground

      **sorry for the double post**
I know I'm probably going to get the piss severely ripped out of me for asking this, but
Has anyone ever successfully trained a deaf lurcher (from two working parents and I own her 4 year old sister who is an awesome little bunny basher.)
Genetically she has potential, but...what do you experts think?
She's not a Double merle by the way, it's extreme piebald/white head. Her vision is perfect

      Evening all,
I'm lucky enough to have first pick from a friends litter. He’s crossed his Saluki dog with his Collie Bull GH bitch. I’ve only seen videos of the litter as he’s based in UK. Few different characters in the litter, some sit reluctant off in the back ground others play among themselves two are incredibly forward one more than the other.

What key things do you look for when picking a litter? I’ve mostly ran mine on rabbits, reds and some others.

      Go stead,
      oshea

Just got this stunning little bitch, nearly 12 months old, Deerhound x Bedie grey.
I used to go out with my dad's Lurchers when I was a kid but I'm a female in my 30's now and struggling to get back into the swing of things.
I'd love to have this girl knocking down bunnies but I just don't know where to start, I've barely seen a rabbit or and other quarry since I moved here.
Any of you experts in my area fancy giving me some advice/practical experience (hunting related only)
