Had a cracking experience a couple months ago while walking the fresh stubbles. Two Tornadoes came ripping straight over my head very low! f***ing love those jets and quite possibly the last time I'll experience that with them being replaced in the near future. Wish I could have gotten my phone out quicker to video it!

Think the spitfires are owned by private collectors. Yea feel privellaged to have seen it. As said didnt have phone with me and my tablet was on charge normally have it in my backpack.

Nearly got trampled once by donkeys at the Blackpool air show when a Harrier hovered. By fec that's some noise.

My mate used to do the refits on the Tornados (Gr7 I believe) I used to go watch them take off and mooch around the sky. Funnily enough they were flown by mates of my uncle, they were all test pilots for the Eurofighter also, as it was called then. Remember being at my cousins Christening asking alsorts of questions and all of them just said it was a crazy plane to fly (20 odd years ago now).

The sound of a Merlin always makes the hairs on my neck stand up.

Talking of iconic sounding engines from iconic British planes, the 'howl' from the Rolls Royce Olympus engines on the Vulcan Bomber during takeoff was something to behold and all. I count myself lucky in that there used to be an airshow at RAF Brawdy here in Pembs every year and I got to see and hear a fair number of iconic aircraft in close proximity as a kid. Spitfire, EE Lightning, Mosquito, Lancaster, Tornado F3 interceptor, Harrier, the mighty Vulcan, and loads more..

Vulcan 'howl:'

Living just 20 miles east from Heathrow I am well within the 29 mile final approach, and being on the flight path, so see plenty of commercial airliners flying over when the wind is from the west. Up until 2000 it was always a treat to see and hear Concorde flying over in the evening. In the run-up to the London 2012 olympics we were getting Typhoons flying over, used to hear them before you see them.

Incredible feats of British engineering, so sad we've lost our skill set.

Yep, Vulcan was always a treat to view. Used to attend a few airshows and have seen some impressive flying. At Mildenhall one year got to see a F14 Tomcat flown by a lunatic, now that was impressive. Another one that sticks in my mind was at Biggin Hill one year and they had arranged for a Virgin 747 to divert and do a low pass along the runway, it even dipped it's wings,
